"Come in."I stepped aside from the small side door of Crimson to let Paxton, Harmony and Jordan come inside.
Jordan, another one of Harmony's boyfriends, had almost as many tattoos as Jake. Like Jake, he looked like the sort of guy who would hurt you if you looked at him the wrong way.
I was certain he would hurt anyone who lay a hand on Harmony. The looks they exchanged clearly showed they adored each other. I hadn't met her other two guys, both Jordan's brothers, but Jordan and Paxton couldn't be much different.
I guessed that kept her life interesting.
Jordan gave me a measured look. "Thanks for helping us when Harmony needed to get her magic back. Sorry I couldn't be there to help rescue you. Kayden, our son, is going through a phase. He’s a powerful witch. When he's being difficult, it's best to have someone around who can use magic."
"We wouldn't want magic to go awry," I said dryly. Personally, I would be okay with it not existing at all. Although, it did come in handy for healing. It was certainly more efficient than human medicine.
"We really wouldn't," Paxton agreed. "Fortunately, Harmony's sister was available to take care of him today. What you need us to do will take a lot of magic. I'll need all the help I can get."
Harmony hadn't said a word since she walked through the door, but she offered me a reassuring smile.
Confiding in her the other day helped at the time, but now… Now it was disconcerting knowing she knew what happened to me. She wouldn't tell anyone, but still, she knew.
"This way." I led them over to the elevator. It was a squeeze with me, three of them and two of my bodyguards. I didn't trust Harmony and her men enough to leave security behind.
I wasn't naïve; three wolves stood little chance against three powerful witches, but it was better than taking them on alone.
"Nice view," Paxton said as he was ushered into my office on the tenth floor. "Who said crime doesn't pay?"
Harmony gave him a sharp look.
Jordan looked alarmed, but relaxed slightly when I smiled.
"The people who say that aren't doing it right," I said. "Fortunately, that's most people, or property prices in the area would be even higher than they are now."
I waved them towards the couches on the side of the room and pulled out my phone to send a text to Ben. I could have summoned him through the bond, but that was something neither of us should get used to.
He wasn't far anyway, just in my apartment looking around for hidden cameras or listening devices. He was certain he wouldn't find any, but insisted on looking anyway. It didn't hurt to be vigilant, and it kept him busy for a while.
He stepped through the doorway a couple of minutes later, followed by Cooper.
"Hey," Cooper greeted the newcomers warmly. "Long time, no see." He offered his hand to Paxton and Harmony before introducing himself to Jordan.
All the while, Ben stood near the doorway. He looked composed but wary. He must have caught some inkling of what was going on. Finally, he moved over to stand beside me, almost close enough for our hands to touch.
I sensed he wanted to lace his fingers in mine, but he didn't.
"What's going on?" he asked softly.
"They're here to break the bond," I said as lightly as I could.
It took him a moment to realise what I said. Surprise and hurt crossed his face and flooded through the bond.
"Can we talk about this? Alone?" His eyes pleaded with me.
I thought about refusing, but I owed him that much. "Cooper, offer our guests a drink. Ben and I will be back in a minute."
