Graham’s laugh was light. “Appreciate the consideration.”

“Anything for my girl’s other favorite guy,” Oz said.

My girl. Not the most unique nickname, but better than the alternatives.

Graham’s phone rang and he sighed. “It’s Adrienne. Give me a second.” He swiped Answer. “What’s up?”

Sister calling before sex? That was a bit of a mood killer.

A tinny, indistinguishable voice drifted from his phone, and deep creases etched themselves into his forehead. “They can’t do that… I’m sorry… No. I’ll make it right… It is on me, it’s my fault… I’ll call you back when I know.”

Graham dropped his phone on dashboard with a sigh.

If I curled up next to him, would it comfort him the way it would me? “What’s wrong?”

“Erol ran his complaint up to the Dean, about me being on campus and disrupting courses. She’s been asked not to return.”

“They can’t do that.” Oz stiffened behind me, and not in a sexy, let’s play kind of way.

Graham shook his head. “No, they can’t. I have to make this right for her.” He raked his fingers through his hair. “I have to know someone there who still has clout who can speak up for her.”

“I do,” Oz said. “Let me make some calls.”

“I don’t need you to do this for me.” Like that, our morning of fun evaporated in Graham’s bitter retort.

Oz sighed. “This entire thing we’re working on for Luna, it’s your brainchild. These are things I could never do on my own. If it makes you feel better, think of it as returning the favor.”

We wouldn’t be here, none of this would be happening, if it weren’t for me. I was costing Oz contacts. I was damaging Graham’s chances of recovering career-wise, and now Adrienne was suffering the consequences too.
