I snort. Shit like that. Yeah, this guy was not looking forward to saying goodbye to junk food.

I shake my head. “I’m just a temp. While this part-time job would be really cool, I’m only here for tonight.”

We lapse into silence.

“So, what do you want to do? Run for the hills and never come back or should I schedule you in with Xavier the taker-of-joy?”

“Schedule me in,” he laughs. “Name’s Grant.”

I click away on the computer and see Grant’s name in today’s log. Reading the note that Xavier put in there about this client, he needs to be scheduled for three days every week for the next six weeks. Urg, that was rough.

“Looks like a grueling schedule. Do you prefer mornings or late afternoons?”

“Mornings. The earlier the better.”

I nod, biting my lip as I flip over to Xavier’s calendar. I see instantly that he’s put a hold already. “Looks like Xavier has you already booked for 5 AM. Gross.” I whisper the last part to myself. My eyes dart up to Grant. “Does that time seem…right to you?” It’s an honest question.

“It’s perfect.”

Yuck. Perfectly horrible. I can’t say that out loud though. Instead, I force a smile and confirm everything like I was shown. I can feel Grant watching me and I know a blush is slowly blooming on my cheeks. It isn’t hard to make me blush, my pale skin gives away my feelings all the time.

“Okay, all done.” I move to the printer to grab his schedule. “Starting two days from now your torture will begin. I wish you all the luck in the world trying to stay away from coffee.”

He groans, I’m not sure in pain or delight. “Ah, coffee. That will be hard.”

“That’swhat you’re going to miss? Not cookies or donuts or…hell, pizza?”

“I’ve been dairy-free for a couple years so—”

“Oh my God! You don’t eat cheese?”

“Dairy-free cheese, yes.”

Okay, maybe working at a gym wasn’t my thing after all. I would probably shame people trying to get healthy into eating all the foods I considered essential.

My eyes are saucers as I hand him the schedule. My brain was still trying to wrap around everything I’d learned about this man in the last minute. I was still attracted to him. I just didn’t know if we could eat together. Like, where would he take me if we were to go on a date?

Ha! Like that would ever happen. This man would serve to be “private time” material for months to come but there was no way I would see him again after today. 5 AM and I hadn’t met in years.

“If you only had two days to eat all the things you loved, what would you start with?” He casually asked as he folded the schedule up and shoved it in his bag.

Without needing time to think about my answer I blurt out, “donuts.”

“Like the kind you get from the corner coffee shop?”

“No, real gourmet donuts. I work for a bakery that makes the best donuts in the city, probably the province. They are light, and fluffy, and—”

“Lexi. I’m sorry to interrupt.” It’s Sasha, looking a bit frantic. “I need your help. One of the toilets upstairs is clogged and water is going everywhere. Can you call a plumber? Crap, I need to close the change room so no one slips. I forgot.” With that, she’s off. I try to call her name, but she doesn’t hear me.

And like the distracted fool I am, I run after her with the yellow safety sign that was to the side of the check-in desk. Stupidly leaving Grant behind, looking shocked.
