I was so screwed.Marinka owned me, all of me. I couldn’t get enough of her body. When she left in the car with Pedro, I stood outside the club for a long moment, wondering if I was doing enough to keep her and Lilly safe. My brothers were not sure Sofia was responsible for the attack outside the restaurant, so maybe I was overlooking some things. A lot was at stake.

I called a few Serbians who’d broken away from the Russians and they were reluctant to meet with me at first, but I changed their mind.

“Your wife is very beautiful, Sebastian,” one of the girls told me as I headed back to another office I had in the building. My main one was riddled with the odor of sex.

“She is and I’m a lucky man,” I said. I was fucking more than lucky, because I had the perfect daughter I needed to protect at all cost. She and Marinka were my whole world.

Sparky and Milo arrived several moments later. Sparky was with a woman who reminded me of a porn star. After assaulting her mouth in a savage kiss, he slapped her on the ass and sent her on her merry way. She winked at him over her shoulder as she walked away, while he gave her a little wave. I shook my head.

“Who is that? Are you finally going to settle down with someone?” Milo joked, staring at our younger brother who was still lusting after the girl. Milo’s three daughters had already left home. Eliza, the younger one wanted to get married, but I didn’t think my brother approved of her boyfriend. The fact that he was in the Polish mafia posed a problem to him and all of us.

“Maybe. I never thought you were going to be the one leading by example.” Sparky quipped.

“I bet ten grand he’s going to chicken out right before the wedding.” Milo laughed.

“Fuck off. It’s my fucking life and I am getting old,” Sparky muttered.

My brother was complicated and I knew for a fact that he’d been fucking Russina. I didn’t really care what both of them were doing behind my back. What I had with her was a business arrangement—neither of us was ever interested in anything else. This had been fucked up on so many levels, but we were sleeping with other people. I never claimed to be in love with her. However, Sparky had truly had cared for her. He thought I had no idea, but I’d figured it out. That was why he’d been so upset at Marinka’s revelation.

There was a knock at the door and Luna entered the room, carrying a small box.

“This just arrived for you.” She put the box on the table and left.

I instantly caught a bad feeling in my gut. We all looked at each other, probably thinking the same thing. The Serbians were already late and this wasn’t like them.

Sparky took his knife and started tearing into the box. When he finally opened it, he belted out a curse. We all looked inside to see a hand there, a gold signet on the forefinger. It looked like Ivan’s hand to me, one of the Serbians—which told me they were late because they’d been captured.

“Sofia must have gotten to them before us,” Milo commented.

I looked around the hand to see if there was anything else. Then, I spotted the note.

“You have been warned. Comply with my demands or die. Next time it will be one of your heads,” I read the handwriting, getting more furious at each word.

“She’s after you and she won’t stop until she gets what she wants,” Sparky muttered, moving his hand over his face. Milo looked stunned.

“No, she wants more. She wants me as her partner so she wants to get rid of Marinka. So now I agree with you, Sparky. She needs to go. Eliminated,” I stated, and both of my brothers nodded in agreement.

I closed the box and told a guy from security to take care of it. We discussed our options and when my brothers left, I headed straight home. It was late and by the time I got in, Marinka was already fast asleep. She looked peaceful, lying with her beautiful and now ruined ass exposed. I must have really worn her out tonight.

I got undressed and slipped under the covers. My cock was hard again—she had that effect on me. No other woman made me feel this way before. With Sofia, all I’d had was a fling, so it surprised me how obsessed she was with getting me back.

The next few days were tense. To secure allies in this war proved tricky because nobody wanted to get involved. The Italians, possibly the Sicilians, could handle the threat, but after what happened with Marinka I was reluctant to deal with them. I was getting frustrated with the lack of responses.

I chased people, day in and day out. Marinka stayed home all day with Lilly. They were both fed up with being trapped in the house. We all needed a break and a trip to France was a great thing to look forward to.

On Wednesday evening, I stayed at home and worked from my office there. Gino and his men were seen meeting with the Sicilians. This was a good sign, although I couldn’t imagine associating with the bastard who’d almost killed my wife. Gino detested the Russians and especially Sofia. He could be an asset, but he was lucky I hadn’t torn him limb from limb.

Then I heard a knock, so I shouted to come in, not lifting my nose off the computer screen. It was probably Lilly coming to say goodnight.

“What are you still doing in here so late?” Marinka’s voice reached me. I rubbed my eyes and looked at her. She had her pajamas on. I glanced at the clock. It was just an after ten. As always, I’d lost track of time.

“I had so much to do. I am sorry, princess.” I stretched my arms. My mind was tired and my muscles were stiff. A headache was creeping in, too.

Marinka smiled at me. We had been making love—well, fucking like rabbits—all the time since our adventurous night in the club. Most of the time, she instigated it. That woman was going to put me in an early grave but when I was with her, nothing else existed.

She went around the desk, her blond hair slipping over her shoulders. She was irresistible, smart, and confident. I hated to admit this, but in a way, Gino had done me a small favour. She’d almost died and we lost so much time, but this experience had changed her completely. She was so different—older and more confident, but wiser, too.

“You are working too hard. We were supposed to have dinner. Lilly was so fussy tonight and she wouldn’t settle afterward, but she’s finally asleep. Then I started reading this book and lost track of time, too. I was supposed to check on you,” Marinka explained.
