The temperature today was soaring or maybe it was just me, because I had been horny since I’d woken up that morning.

As we approached the door, she looked nervous and kept biting her lips. I wanted to embrace her, kiss her, and assure her that everything was going to be all right, but as she said, I had to respect her boundaries. We had plenty of time and a little angel to take care of, so I didn’t want to rush anything. Eventually, she would come to me on her own.

The door opened before I managed to put the key in the lock and my brother Sparky stood there, staring at us. This was unexpected.

“Brother, you and our dear sleeping beauty, Russina, are finally here,” he greeted me with an awkward clap on the back.

Marinka stared at him in confusion, and I wasn’t happy about all of this. My brothers didn’t yet know Russina was dead, so Marinka would need to start playing this game again.

“Sparky, what the fuck are you doing here?” I asked him. “Russina needs rest, so let’s do this another time.”

“I really have to talk to you. This can’t wait. I drove all the way up, and the least you could do is humor me. I have no idea why you left that conveniently located eighteenth-floor penthouse. It was safe enough,” he snapped, his gaze on my wife.

I didn’t like the way he was looking at her most of all. Sparky was up to something, and it likely had to do with the Russians.

“Russina doesn’t fucking remember you. She just woke up from a coma without any memories at all. Does this get through your thick skull?” I stood in front of him while Marinka lobbed her perplexed gaze between the two of us. Sparky cocked his head to the side and smirked.

“That’s right. I have no idea who you are, but you two look familiar. Is he your brother, Sebastian? He did call you that,” she said, looking behind his shoulder as if expecting someone else to turn up. Fuck, I wanted to kill him because this wasn’t supposed to happen. I had everything arranged and that fool ruined it. Right now, I was ready to kick him out of here, but Lilly wouldn’t like it. She had a bond with my brother and he was obsessed with her. Sparky wasn’t too happy with me, either, to be true. None of the members of my family were.

“Let’s get inside. Tasha, the nanny, will show you around and take you to Lilly,” I snapped, taking her hand, but she pulled way. Frustrated and annoyed, I walked inside.

Moments later, someone shot through, screaming, “Mama!” Tasha stood in the doorway with Pedro while Lilly launched herself in Marinka’s arms.

“Everyone inside. We don’t need to have this party in the foyer,” I said, raising my voice.

“You’re really fucked up, brother. I thought Milo was joking when he said she didn’t remember anything at all.” As he spoke, Sparky high-fived Lilly.

I headed to the kitchen where I’d find the bar, because I needed a drink. It was late morning, but my head felt like it was just about to explode.

I poured myself some whiskey, my brother followed, and we both watched how Lilly started dragging Marinka around. Tasha was trying to introduce herself and then Pedro, but they had no chance with the little one.

“So, what’s going on? Why are you here?” I asked when they headed upstairs. I took a swig of my drink, and the liquid burned its way down my throat. Just what I needed.

“Two of our clubs were burned down last night, but Milo’s handling it,” Sparky said, pouring himself a drink and downing it in one gulp.

“What the fuck did you just say?” I asked, wondering why I didn’t know anything about it. Milo wouldn’t just hide something so serious.

“Two clubs were burned down, but I don’t think Gino’s men were involved. Three people died and the police are looking into it,” he explained, red in the face now.

“Sparky, why the hell did no one call me?” I demanded to know, getting in his face. I had beat him up more than once, but that asshole just loved getting on my nerves.

“You have a lot on your plate. Milo said he was going to handle it until Sofia…” Milo explained, and then my breath caught in my throat.

“What about Sofia?”

“She wants to see you and I think it’s serious.”

CHAPTER8

Marinka

“You’re goingto sleep in my room, Mommy. I gave you all my dollies and put them on your bed, so you wouldn’t be scared in the night, but now I think it’s best you just stay with me,” Lilly rambled on while she showed me all her toys and collection of books. Her room big, bright and airy with pops of pink, white and yellow. The style of the space definitely showed off her personality.

This house was huge and I couldn’t believe I was going to live here. I couldn’t deny feeling a little overwhelmed. Lilly had a nanny, Tasha, who greeted me warmly after Sebastian introduced me to his brother, Sparky, who was just as intimidating. She was a lot older than me, but I could already tell she had a great relationship with my daughter. I needed to stand my ground and make my feelings known, or all these people would be making decisions for me in no time.

“Sweetie, I don’t think your mommy will fit into your bed. Besides, she has her own room to sleep in. Remember, we talked about this,” Tasha said with a smile.

Speaking of bed, I wondered where my room would be. Would Sebastian expect me to sleep with him? I swallowed, hoping he wasn’t expecting anything to come out of that. Soon I’d have to talk to him about boundaries, and my privacy. He wasn’t going to dictate how I should live. I knew he was the one who made it so Dr. Mike moved away. I wasn’t that stupid.
