“I accept your terms,” I said. “But if I win, you have to sleep outside on the porch.”

“Even more reason for me to win.” His lips pressed together in amusement. “Challenge accepted.”

I didn’t wait for him to tell me when the game had started and thumped him in the shoulder, earning me with a blast to the stomach. My sisters always said I was the child who cheated in games. No sense in changing my ways now. Especially when such big stakes were at hand.

“Low blow,” he said, a smile sounding in his voice.

“There’s more where that came from,” I promised, and a thrill skated along my back.

I slammed him in the leg. Reciprocating, he whacked me in the butt.

“Dirty tactics,” he said.

I was loving the flirting firing between us as I hit him in the side. All-out war broke out. Our pillows clashed. Another sweep got him in the chest. He got me back with a strike to the arm. We pummeled each other frantically, pillows whipping through the air, and I couldn’t stop laughing. We were making so much noise, I was surprised Gill and Fin hadn’t already come busting in one us to see what was going on.

For my final assault, I pounded his head. He got me in the back, and I fell face-first onto the bed. When I rolled over, he climbed over top of me, clutching both the pillows.

“It seems I won.” Damn him and his eyes, which were smoldering with desire.

His gaze stirred something inside me. A longing to have him near, to wrestle with him, and for our actions to turn from fun to foreplay and fornication.

“No, you haven’t,” I said.

I tried to snatch back my pillow, but he held both of them over his head and away from my grasp. Now, he played dirty. I leaped up, trying again to secure my pillow, accidentally scratching him in the face.

Sea god not again.

“Im sorry…” But he didn’t care for my apology.

He tossed the pillows aside. A warm arm hooked around my back. His lips found my neck and gently caressed it. I leaned my head back, letting him dust my throat in his love.

“I believe you owe me a bath.” His words fanned my skin, bringing out the goose bumps.

By now, an underwater volcano raged below. I was willing to do anything for him as long as he didn’t leave. “Very well. Come collect your prize.”

He scooped me into his arms and carried me to the bathroom. My arms found his neck and stroked it. Soon, he set me back down on the cold stone floor. His shirt and pants came off in a hurry, and he stepped into the bath, his legs stretching the entire length of it.

Mira and the maids had replaced the water after Gill’s bath, so it was cold but fresh. The temperature didn’t bother merfolk because of our thick and insulated skin.

“Your turn,” he said, motioning for me to get undressed.

He didn’t take his eyes off me as I removed my skirt. His gaze lingered on the curls between my legs.

“The corset, too,” he told me.

Really? Things were sliding more out of control by the moment. But I dived in with total surrender. To hell with my earlier concerns. I was going to remember this night for the rest of my life. Might as well enjoy it.

Slowly, I untied the laces of my garment, and I smiled, enjoying building the anticipation. He seemed to like it too, leaning back, rubbing his jaw. I pried the corset free from my body and let it fall behind me. Nemo took all of me in as I grabbed the sponge from the nearby sink. He held me steady as I sank into the water in front of him, squishing between his legs. I leaned back into his chest, savoring the sensation of being cradled there.

After a few moments, he pushed aside my hair and swept the sponge across my neck. I delighted in each stroke trickling water down my back. Poseidon, I loved being treated like a princess by him and him alone. If I weren’t careful, I could really get used to this. His sweet and considerate nature kept drawing me in further. Sea god, he made it hard for me not to fall deeper for him.

“I have to ask you this,” he said, “because it’s driving me crazy.”

“Aha,” I said, enjoying what he was doing to me.

“You like Gill too?” he growled, making me stiffen. “I see the way you look at him.”

Flipping hell. Talk about ruining the moment.
