Cyn said she was his. Always.

For the first time ever, he knew what it felt like to love like that. “Forever’s not enough.”

Cyn and Lana just living here wasn’t enough. He wanted to make them being a family official. And that meant he needed to make some plans.

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Cyn walked into the diner with Hunt for Pancake Tuesday, spotted the rest of the family already at the table and had a moment of clarity that she and Hunt would be doing this for years to come. Little Eliza and Lana would grow up surrounded by these Wilde men, and Cyn and Shelby would be best friends and family. It made her smile.

“I’ve missed that pretty smile.” Hunt brushed his thumb along her jaw.

She looked up at his happy face. “I needed this.”

“It’s good to be with people who care about you.”

She nodded. “It’s better when they’re family. Lana will have you and me and all of them.”

Max walked over to greet them. “Hey, we weren’t sure you three would make it.” Max took the diaper bag from Cyn’s shoulder and leaned in and kissed her cheek. “You doing okay?”

“A little better every day,” she assured him.

Max shook Hunt’s hand. “How’s the chest?”

“Black and blue but getting better.”

Max looked Hunt up and down, noting the uniform. “You’re back to work today?”

“We’re really short-staffed. So I’m in the office until I’ve healed and get cleared by the doctor.”

“Come on, Shelby can’t wait to tell you all about the wedding plans,” Max said to them, then turned and immediately ran into a pretty woman with dark hair and green eyes, nearly knocking her down. He grabbed hold of her with one hand and let the diaper bag slip from his other and tumble on the floor, spilling the contents. “Kenna. Sorry.” Max released the woman like touching her burned him. “Did I hurt you?”

“I’m fine,” she bit out. “Excuse us.” The woman and the guy she was with walked past them.

Max glared at the guy, but then his gaze softened on the woman again as she disappeared out the door and he watched her walk to the parking lot.

Cyn looked up at Hunt. “What was that?”

Hunt grinned. “Kenna is the one who got away.”

“I let her go,” Max grumbled, dropping into a squat to pick up the diaper bag contents littering the floor.

“I see.” Cyn gave Hunt a knowing look, letting him know she understood that Max may have let Kenna go but he regretted that decision. Cyn also hadn’t missed the flare of pain in Kenna’s eyes when she looked at Max.

“Don’t,” Max said, opening the diaper bag to stuff in a handful of diapers.

“She’s very pretty,” Cyn pointed out.

Max growled something under his breath.

Hunt chuckled. “I’m going to set this little one down at the table.” Hunt took Lana into the dining room and plunked her car seat atop a high chair next to Eliza’s.

Cyn sank down to help Max. “You miss her.”

“No, I don’t.” Max turned to grab the blanket and spare clothes from the floor.

“Maybe she misses you, too,” she persisted.

“Looks like she’s with someone new. Again,” Max bit out.
