“Who did you send it to?”

She just shook her head in horror.

“Billy?” I asked dreading the answer.

“Worse!”

“Who is worse than your brother?”

“Caroline Shaw.”

I don’t know if it was the relief that Billy hadn’t been the one to receive it or if it was picturing Miss Shaw receiving a risqué text, but I started laughing.

“It’s not funny!” Cheyenne slapped me on my arm.

“It’s a little funny.”

“No, it’s not.” I saw her swipe the screen on her phone and hit the red delete square. “Maybe if I delete it she won’t get it.”

“I don’t think it works that way.” I hated to burst her bubble but I didn’t want her to get her hopes up.

“Miss Shaw has a picture of my underwear! And I signed it with hashtag Cashenne so she’s going to know that I meant to send it to you.”

“Wait. You sent a picture?”

“Yes. I went into the bathroom and took a picture to show you the color of my underwear.”

Damn. That was hot. “Do you still have the picture saved on your phone? If you do, I think it’s only right that you send it to me since I am the intended recipient.”

“Oh my gosh!” She looked at me like I’d grown two heads, but her lips were turning up in a smile. “Seriously? I sent Miss Shaw, the biggest gossip in town, a text that is basically outing us and all you can think about is getting my panty picture?”

“Yes.” I nodded.

“Why aren’t you freaking out? She’s going to tell people. That we’re like…” She waved her hand between us. “…like a thing.”

“Good.”

“Good? How is that good?”

“I hope she takes out an ad on the front page of the Firefly Island Tribune, not the panty picture but that we’re a thing. Then maybe Tim and everyone else will stop asking you out.”

“You don’t want guys asking me out?” she asked, her voice growing quiet as the energy between us shifted.

“No. I don’t.” I took the phone out of her hand, set it on the console and pulled her into my arms and she came willingly.

“Are we… a thing?” I could see the uncertainty in her eyes.

“We’re whatever you want us to be.”

Her body melted against me. I captured her mouth with mine and finally did what I’d been dying to do all night. I kissed Cheyenne like my life depended on it, because it sort of did.

I didn’t want to imagine a future without Cheyenne in it. She was more than just my friend or lover, she was my best friend, my soulmate, my everything.

Taking two steps I backed her against the wall. When I got her pinned into place, I lifted her legs up and she wrapped them around my waist. My left hand gripped her ass as my right hand moved beneath her shirt. Her mound filled my palm and I tweaked her nipples through her lace bra.

Things were going at a frantic speed when she broke our kiss. “Cash wait.”

Oh fuck. Had I moved too fast with her?

Just because we’d had sex once didn’t mean that she wanted to do it again.

“What? What’s wrong?”

She shook her head. “Nothing.”

I may not know what it was, but it definitely wasn’t nothing.
