June’s mental hesitation left again the minute that Colin wrapped his lips around her clit and sucked and was replaced by a loud gasp from her mouth. June felt Colin grin against her, felt his laugh into the very heat of her as he did it again to have the same reaction emerge from her mouth. It was as if hearing June’s delighted noises triggered a release of Colin’s own. Gone were the playful attempts and teases and in their place was a determination and focus that June had felt with his hands last night.

Colin continued to use his lips, alternating gentle tugs with hard sucks, and June continued to find that she couldn’t help but make small grunts, groans, and moans. Those moans grew louder, more wanton, as his middle finger slipped inside her. Colin moved his finger, encouraging more and more wetness to gather from June, then added his index finger, hooking his fingers and he continued to move and move and move and suck and suck and suck.

“Good lord Jesus fuck, Colin,” June muttered, prickles of sweat beginning to dot her forehead. Colin’s left hand, the one that remained on her thigh, gripped her hip and tugged her body even closer to his face. That hand wrapped around the generous curve, the tips of his fingers digging into her flesh at her hip. June hoped they would leave bruises, tiny remembrances of this week that she could press into when she wanted a physical reminder of the way that Colin was able to pull such pleasure from her body.

Colin continued to work her with his hand and his mouth and June felt the tension corkscrew deep in her belly, twisting and turning and knotting until finally, on a loud, throaty gasp, she came. Hard. Colin removed his lips to peek up at her as sensation coursed through her body, settling in her hips and breasts. June looked down, met Colin’s eyes, his lips glistening and wet, as he slowly continued to move his fingers, managing to eek out the last vestiges of pleasure from her body. June took a deep breath as the last spark twinkled out, leaving her sated and sleepy and full of - something. Some feeling that she wasn’t quite able to put her finger on and, frankly, didn’t want to spend mental energy on investigating. With a contented hum, Colin removed his fingers and laid his head against June’s stomach.

They lay there for a series of moments, Colin’s cheek against June’s belly as her pulse slowed. His hand, still a bit sticky with June’s pleasure, slid down to her ankle and gripped lightly, his thumb rubbing up and down around the tiny protrusion of bone. The only sound in the small living room was the sound of their breathing, the thump of June’s heart as she thought about how everything had gone topsy turvy in the past few days. When she stepped onto the bus on Monday morning, she had figured that camp would give her time to work on cover letters. Instead, at this moment, she had exactly zero cover letters written, but had been given a few really amazing orgasms. Laughing to herself, June decided it was a trade off that she was okay with it for the time being.

“What’s so funny?” Colin said, squeezing her ankle to break June out of her thoughts.

“Just thinking about how this week has gone very differently than I expected,” she replied. It was as close to the truth as she would let him know for now. “I mean, when I heard the camp had a new director, I assumed that you would be the same as the previous two.”

“And what would that be?” Colin said, shifting himself up on the couch and pulling a light blanket over their laps.

“You know, older hippie dude who is kind of balding but still has a ponytail and who like ‘really cares about trees, dude’ and still thinks that no child should be given a cell phone before the age of 21.”

“Well, I’m not balding, I’ll give you that,” Colin said, pressing a kiss to the top of June’s head. “But I do like trees, and I will admit that I am suspicious of kids and cell phones.”

“We’ll put a pin on the cell phone conversation, because I’d love to pick your brain about that, but c’mon - you have to admit that you were definitely a different person than I expected to encounter.”

“I mean the same could be said for you,” Colin said, wrapping June’s hand in his own. “Never in a million years is this something that I had anticipated happening.” June twisted his hand so she could check the time on his running watch and saw that they still had a few minutes before they needed to get themselves dressed and respectable.

“Have you dated much? Since shut down? Or before?” June asked, bracing herself for the answer. It wasn’t like her to be a jealous person, and she genuinely wished her exes well (except the one guy that cheated on her - fuck him), but something about the idea of imagining Colin with someone else caused a very specific green eyed monster to flare inside of her.

“So we’re having this conversation?” Colin asked. June shot him a look and pulled the blanket up to her chin. “And I don’t even get to see your boobs while I do it?” June ducked her head under the blanket, earning a brief chuckle from Colin. “Ugh, fine. I haven’t dated anyone since COVID, especially because I only moved back to the Vanberg area a few months before shut down anyway. I had a girlfriend before, but we ended on good terms. You?”

“Nope,” June replied in a clipped tone. “Everything was so overwhelming anyway, especially when we all collectively realized this wasn’t going to be a few weeks. I got back on the apps after vaccines, but that was pretty disheartening, to say the least.”

“Why?”

“It’s a toss up between guys who are there for really bad sex, guys who are there to judge you and make comments about your appearance and body, and guys who seem really nice and then ghost you one date in. It’s not worth all the effort,” June sighed. “Plus, apparently, all I have to do is head to up to the mountains for really good sex.” She poked Colin in the ribs.

“But-” Colin said, rubbing his jaw, his hand sliding around to massage the back of his neck. “But we haven’t even had sex.”

June scoffed. “What do you call what we just did? How you made me come on the couch last night? That’s sex to me. P-in-V as the be-all-end-all is such an arbitrary concept developed by the patriarchy -” Colin cut her off by pressing a kiss to her mouth. June thought it was a surprisingly effective way of shutting her up, which was an impressive task.

“Okay, okay,” Colin said, pulling away. “I agree. We have had sex, and you said it was - and I quote - ‘really really good’?” A smug smirk had replaced Colin’s hesitancy and June found that she had a similar smile on her own face, and she nodded. “Good to know. And good to know that all of those idiots on an app didn’t snatch you up. Did you have a boyfriend before COVID? Or girlfriend? Or person?”

“Me? Nah, I haven’t dated seriously in a few years. Teaching was always the thing that came first, spending the extra time to support my students, go to their games and performances and stuff. And then the weekend would come, and I would be exhausted. Guys, in my experience, in Vanberg, tend not to understand that. I don’t know if that makes sense to you.” June felt awkward dissing an entire gender, but it was her experience.

“June, I live full-time at a summer camp. It’s basically the least sexy place in the world and it’s not like I meet a lot of people. The vast majority of my employees are barely old enough to drink.” He took a moment, studied their hands, still linked together, brushed his thumb over the ridges of June’s knuckles. She felt a shiver roll up her arm, disseminate through her torso, land deep in her belly. “One of the reasons I moved back here was to be with my family, yeah, but, like I said, I had just gotten out of a relationship and needed to start over.”

“Oh?” June’s stomach dropped again.

“She was great, but we weren’t right for each other. She was in charge of some programming at the Girl Scout camp that was close to my old site, back in New Mexico. At some point, having the same career trajectory became something that dominated our relationship, so that every conversation was about our job, instead of about us or other things.” Colin took a sigh. “I know it’s too soon to say this, but there’s something different about our conversations.” June felt ice crystallize in her veins, then melt. How could fear and anxiety exist with longing and passion at the same time? June felt that hot and cold sensation again as Colin’s eyes met her own, specks of gold glinting out of the brown.

“I like you, June, and you understand me. You get this balance of love for your job and frustration with the world, and there’s something here. Something between us.” Colin’s eyes had held hers the entire time. June wanted to look away, to escape with a joke or a physical touch, but couldn’t.

“Colin, I -” June began, unsure of what words were going to come out of her mouth, but was interrupted by a quiet buzz and chime from Colin’s watch.

“Shit,” he muttered. “That’s my reminder to start to head back to camp to do afternoon med administration.” They quickly dressed, grabbed their things, and hurried out, though Colin stopped to give Muir a goodbye chin scratch. Hustling back to the field, June and Colin made it with about two minutes to go until recess was over and Colin would be in the health center.

"Oh hey!" Kevin said, giving an exaggerated wave to the both of them. "Good to see you both show up. At the same time. Looking disheveled!"

"Hello, Kevin," Colin said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Hey," June added, running a hand through her hair to assess how out of hand it had gotten. From what she could feel, it wasn't great - not full blown, just-been-fucked hair, but definitely just-been-making out hair.
