“I believe they are, but I do not know where they were taken. Those in that area do not like visitors and did this simply as a favor. What the agreement was is that they would not release the location.”

She seemed to accept that as the truth and stopped asking questions. Now it was suppertime and there was a knock on the door and then food was brought in. Toni didn't eat much more than she had when he first met her. If she had a dragon in there, he wondered what kind of increase her appetite would have. They had a lovely meal and this time the level of their affection had increased to what humans would call heavy necking. But once she was ready to go everything quit and she left.

Over the next two weeks, they ate most meals together and accomplished a great deal towards setting up the parks that they had chosen. The fence building was ongoing and would be for quite a while. All of the parks had guards and the first park that Toni and he were working on also had a ranger. As activity picked up and more things were being built, attempts at theft of building materials and other items was making it obvious that more guards and rangers were needed. Eventually when visitors came this would be even more important.

Toni and he had gotten so much closer that only one step needed to be taken and that would tie their lives together forever. She was reluctant to even discuss that final step. Maybe he needed to push forward in a human way first. It wasn't like she was aware of what he really was.

“I know that you said draconis meant dragon in your old language. But why did your people choose that as the name for your country?" Toni asked.

“We had many stories of magnificent, winged beasts and it was said that their blood ran through the veins of many of our people.”

“So, you based the name of your country and your people on legends?”

“That is a correct assessment. Do stories of dragons interest you?” Ranger asked.

“I'll admit that when I was young, I read many exciting stories about dragons and descriptions of how they looked. They sounded so magnificent that it made me wonder what it would be like to be one and take flight in the sky looking down below on the whole world. You probably think me silly and over imaginative.”

“Not at all. I believe you imaginative and open minded.”

“You are the only one that has ever described things that way.” Toni admitted.

“Maybe that's because I believe in dragons too”.

Toni giggled. “Maybe someday we can find them together.”

“What if I knew where one was. Would you want to see him?”

“Now you're teasing me.”

“I am not. Would you like to see him?

"Would it upset you if he didn't show up?”

“Would it please you if he did?” Ranger asked.

“OK. Show me.”

“You can't tell anyone.” He got on his phone and called an assistant. “I'll have to bring him out and then you can come in and join me. Alright?”

Toni nodded. She seemed struck speechless, so he hurried out passing his assistant as he came in. He went down to the basement where there was a large room setup simply for dragons to change in if it was needed. He shifted and he knew that when she came, she would see his magnificent golden dragon.

The change hadn't been on him for long when he heard someone at the door. Ranger watched as she entered, and he saw her mouth was open in astonishment. Toni got over that pretty quickly and moved up to him slowly so as not to startle him. She held her hand out for him to smell to make sure that it was acceptable to touch him. His dragon approved of her and nodded, and she stroked his cheek and he reacted like a puppy enjoying the petting. Now his assistant came over to lead her out of the room and she was still so stunned she just allowed it.

“I didn't see you.” She said as he came out to join them.

“You were too enamored of my dragon.” Ranger said with a smirk.

“He's not a pet, is he?” She said in outrage.

“No, he's a companion and has been with me for many, many years.”

“He's beautiful.”

“I'm not sure that beautiful is a word he would want you to use. Maybe magnificent or wondrous.”

“You are telling me he has an ego and a surplus of testosterone?” Toni asked.

“He is male and beautiful generally applies to women.”
