“You have to.” I raise my head to look at him and give him a final kiss on the lips. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too,” he says.

“Put me down. Please.” I rest my forehead against his as tears fall down his face. He grunts as I slide to the floor from his arms.

I turn to Calder who can’t even look at me. As I move to hug him, he stands frozen, doing everything he can to keep himself from looking into my eyes. I rest my head against his arm before saying, “I love you. Bye.”

I leave the suite, shaking with fear and a broken heart. If I walk through this door right now, I don’t know if I’ll have the strength to fight. I’m so drained. I can’t face this without turning off everything I’m feeling; all my affection. So I stop off at my office to grab another bag of meth, taking an even higher dosage than I need to so that I can be as fucking out of it as I can possibly get and fuck it, I’m definitely going to die anyway, so I don’t care if I’m almost overdosing on the shit.

I shake and twitch with the hit, all feelings except for excitement and pure joy, eradicated. I have too much energy to just walk through this building normally so I’m almost running through my office door, heading downstairs to my car. Outside, I feel the breeze on my eyeballs and I have no sensitivity to the morning sun that stings my eyes at the same time. I don’t even feel the need to blink as I jump in my car and pull out of the facility to find all my recruits waiting for me just outside the gate, dressed for war and strapped with weapons. Axel and Mikhail step out of the crowd, although I don’t see Calder.

“You must have been crazy if you thought I was going to let you go out there alone. If I can’t go with you, well, they can,” he says and the recruits stand at attention. I can’t see their expressions because they’re wearing protective headgear but Jaya removes hers to say, “Yeah, lead the way, boomer.”

I’m way too pumped to be delayed. My feet are shaking on the pedals. “Okay, then,” I say in impatience as they disperse, climbing into their vehicles. I exchange one last look with Axel and Mikhail before blasting my car out of there and above ground continuing on the path I was on when I left the news station, driving toward my next location, the police station.

Driving behind me are armored buses filled with recruits as I announce my arrival by tossing grenades toward the buildings, standing outside, admiring the sparks that fly off from the explosion like fireworks on New Year's day. As officers flee the building, coughing and panicking, I don’t waste another second, I just toss more grenades, watching as their bodies burst into tiny fragments on the lawn outside. I run back toward my car as thrills race through my body only to hear the propellers of helicopters overhead.

In the blink of an eye, they start firing at my car and I speed the fuck off, trying to get away even though my car is pretty bullet proof but nothing is one hundred percent. I can’t say I’m not grateful as my recruits behind me start shooting at the helicopters above as well. There are like six of them, relentless with bullets being fired at the buses and my car. I don’t have on a fucking helmet and shit so I just try to swerve off as fast as I can, heading over to the place I’m looking forward to the most.

Evelina’s house.

I’m fucking running cars off the road and I find myself not giving a shit about who is being caught in the cross fire but whoever is in the helicopters seem to care about public safety and they seize firing, flying away while announcing shouting through their megaphones. “Everyone, please, get off the road! Lock yourselves inside!”

I use the opportunity to dodge them, driving past cars that have crashed with drivers killed with a bullet to their skull. I find it odd that I don’t have an emotional reaction or even seem to care about who was in the car with them and whether they deserved to go out like that.

Chapter 46

Evelina

I’msmilingattheT.V. as I watch the news seeing Julissa’s handiwork down by the different police stations. A part of me is thrilled when it’s announced that she got away because it means that she’s coming here next. I turn toward my uncles and cousins who all got on a flight to come here as soon as they heard that the slut declared war. They want a piece of her as well, for the sake of family. “Time for us to have some fun.” I smile as I load my machine gun.

They’re all armed as well. I know the bitch is stupid enough to come here and I’ve been laying low waiting for to show up. My uncles step outside of my house leaving me in it since they want to be in on the live action, although they’re not that exposed. Surrounding them and my entire property which spans sixteen acres are all of my trained soldiers. She might have been able to take down fifteen of them but she’s no match for the several hundreds of them not only on my property but surrounding the streets of my property which means that I can sit back relaxed in my living room sipping a cocktail and clutching a weapon if she somehow manages to break through my guards and my family, which I highly doubt she will, watching it all unfold on the massive movie screen connected to my security cameras.

I’m made aware that my instincts weren’t wrong at all as I can hear gunshots ringing off on the outside of the building. I haven’t even made it to the living room yet. I’m walking out of the kitchen with my drink in one hand and my gun in the other, moving my curtain to look through my bullet proof windows to see if I can catch a glimpse of the action which I just can’t stand to miss. Ugh, I can’t see anything from here. I run to the living room and jump into the couch, grabbing the remote and flipping it on, smirking as I clutch my cocktail and take a sip. I’m on the edge of the seat, not in the least bit worried that she’s managed to take out some of my soldiers on the forefront. The ones out there are the weakest link anyway. I jump in delight as I witness a few of her own soldiers being killed but the fucking bitch, I can’t see her yet. Where the hell is she?

It’s like I’m watching a frickin’ movie and I don’t start to get worried until a blast happens on the inside of my gate, followed by another, and another. How many fucking grenades does the bitch have? She’s not the only one with grenades and I’m hoping that some of those explosions at least came from our side, the fuck?!

Out where the action is taking place there’s just clouds of smoke, like fog, covering miles and miles of my gate and lawns before it clears and I notice that they’ve managed to get onto the fucking property. Fuck no. Okay, whatever, they got past the weak links. The ones on the inside of the property aren’t as easy to get through. Fuck! I can’t even drink my fucking cocktail anymore. I can’t sit still as it starts to become clear that she might be able to get past the fucking mush of brain cells I hired to protect me. The bitch and her army are like a fucking bunch of ninjas.

My phone starts ringing.Who the fuck could be calling me now?I think as I walk past it, wanting to smash it into pieces. It keeps ringing and I answer it in anger. “What?!”

“You won’t guess what I’ve found,” one of the local taxi drivers says to me.

“Kinda in the middle of something here,” I bark.

“Yeah, I know. I see the news. I think this could really help you,” he says.

“Well, then fucking spit it out,” I respond.

“Okay, so you know that lead you asked me to keep my eyes out for?” he says.

“What fucking lead?” I ask.

“Remember? When you came back here, you gave me a picture of the bitch who just blew up the police station and three men who you thought were her accomplices? Well, apparently, they might have shown up here,” he says.

“Okay, well, what do you want me to do with that information? They’re probably part of her fucking army,” I respond.

“I don’t know. Maybe not all of them,” he says. “I was outside of the airport before the police shut down everything, including all flights out of Vegas and I think I saw someone that looks like one of the guys get out of another taxi, heading inside the airport. As I said, he looks a little different, got a lot more facial hair and his hair is a lot shorter now but I swear it’s him. I did some digging, checked with my links and it looks like he’s using a fake name.”
