The asshole raised his gun and got off another couple of shots. Both missed.

I stopped short of laughing again when he waved his companions to turn around and head for the road.

They knew where we were and I would bet a whole dragon skin they knew where we were going.

"Fuck!"

On some signal from Kayley, Yard twisted around in mid-air and headed back the other way. Aisha and I were almost thrown off like a rock from a catapult.

I clung to her and somehow she clung to him.

Without even realising it, I'd drawn power from Aisha and Yard and held onto it, not knowing what I'd do with it. Possibly tie a rope around his neck and hold on that way.

At any rate, we managed to stay on. To my relief, I saw the others had done the same.

"What's happening?" Aisha called over her shoulder.

"I'm not sure," I admitted. I had my suspicions.

They were confirmed a couple of minutes later when we found the road again. And the riders. They were headed directly for the city.

Bain waved at me from the back of Kayley and gestured toward the road.

I knew what he wanted, but I hesitated. I didn't like killing, but if they got there alive, they would warn those who held the Residence. They may even kill Dex to stop us from getting to him and freeing him. The thought of them killing him or Devlin—

I sucked in a breath and called out, "We need to get closer."

Hades only knew what Yard thought about that, but he bobbed his head and his wings beat faster.

I glanced over to Bain. He pressed two fingertips to his forehead. The witch's sign when swearing an oath. I didn't know what he was swearing, but I appreciated the gesture. I made a note to ask him about it later.

I raised my hand and copied the gesture, while thinking,I swear not to pee my pants while I kill three more people.

I turned my attention to the ground.

The last rider looked over his shoulder at us, but the other two—a man and a woman, unless I missed my guess—hadn't seen us yet.

I started with the shifter at the back then. I sent a rope of power down toward him and wrapped it around his front wheel.

The back wheel kept going. The shifter did a graceful flip over the handlebars of his machine and landed in a pile of leather on the road.

We soared over his head.

Aisha snapped her hand and a knife appeared on her palm. A snap of her wrist and the knife ended up embedded right in the left side of his chest.

"How the Hades did you do that?" I asked. I shook my head. That was a mad skill if I ever saw one.

"I could ask you the same thing," she replied.

"Touché," I said under my breath. "That's a story for later." I hadn't told her much on the journey down from the mountain, but I figured Bain or Kerina might have filled her and her mother in. Then again, neither was a blabbermouth, so I shouldn't be that surprised.

"I look forward to it," Aisha replied.

By now, the middle rider noticed there was no one behind her but us.

She pulled out a gun and fired with one hand while she kept her bike steady with the other.

At least until she ran into a ball of power. From the way her bike crumpled, it must have felt like a brick wall.
