I know, where were my priorities? I had missed dinner though. My stomach reminded me of that with a rumble.

"That's great." He shifted his position, but not before I saw the tent in the front of his pants. If I wasn't still weak, I'd make sure he was balls deep in my hungry pussy right now.

I sighed out my nose in frustration. Why couldn't I be a normal witch? Or better yet, a shifter. I could slip into some cute, furry form and scurry around. Or stalk around, if I was the stalking kind. Or fly. Or—

The possibilities were so much better than lying here, cockblocked by some stupid whammy. If I found out someone was behind it, I would rip off their nuts and shove them down their throat. If they didn't have nuts, I'd figure something out.

"Do you want me to see how long breakfast will be?" Knox asked.

"No need," Bain said as he shoved the door open with his elbow. He carried a tray which smelled like heaven in food form. "I wasn't sure what you'd want, so I brought everything."

"If some of that everything is bacon, then I'm all in," I said. I let Knox help me to sit up. My head spun for a moment, but hunger pushed aside dizziness.

"Enough bacon for a dragon." Bain set the tray down on the bed and pulled off the cloche. He wasn't joking when he said there was lots of bacon. There might even be enough for me to share a rasher or two.

As if that would happen.

"I only brought two plates," Bain told Knox. He didn't look even slightly sorry.

"I can eat with my hands," Knox said.

Bain shrugged. "Suit yourself." He started to plate up bacon, eggs, toast and fruit, then passed it over to me.

While Knox made a bacon, egg and toast sandwich, Bain poured coffee for two.

I would offer to let Knox use my cup after me, but I'd never seen him drink coffee. Oh well, he had other redeeming qualities. Besides, that left more coffee for me.

As hungry as I was, I still waited for Bain to pile his own plate with food and start eating before I touched a bite of mine. In spite of what Wilma said, I couldn't rule out that someone tampered with the food. By someone, I mean Bain. Or anyone he might be working with.

When he didn't die, I picked up my fork and shovelled egg into my mouth with all the finesse of a hungry seagull tearing apart a piece of bread.

I swallowed and waited, but I didn't die. That was a good start. Also, the eggs tasted amazing. I soon polished them off, along with more bacon than one person should probably eat, and some toast. I washed it all down with amazing coffee, then tucked into the fruit.

The guys ate with more restraint, but with matching expressions of appreciation on their faces.

"Now I see why Slade poached Dex's chefs," I said when I was finally full.

"Dinner last night was just as good," Bain said. "Shame you missed it. Good to see you looking better."

"Yeah, thanks." I let him take my empty plate. "I hear no one knows what happened."

I searched his face for some hint of the truth. Guilt, worry, anger, something.

He gave me nothing. Just a nod. "Yes. We can only guess it had something to do with your power. The only way to know for sure is for you to use it again."

"Strangely, I'm not thrilled at that suggestion," I said wryly. Was that the point though? To stop me using my power? If it was, then mission accomplished. I didn't want to feel that vulnerable ever again. Of course, that left me vulnerable in other ways. Like not being able to defend myself as well as I usually could. I should have kept the fork, just in case.

"I didn't think you would be," Bain agreed. "Without that, we may never know what happened." A flash of regret crossed his features, but that was all. He wasn't doing much to assuage my fears right now.

"Thanks for bringing in breakfast," I said. "I feel almost myself again. Ready to take on anything. Starting with a shower. If the Keep has showers."

Knox grinned. "It does. With rain-shower heads."

"Ohhh, I like those." Anything warm and wet would do me right now.

"I'll help you up." Knox offered me his hand. "I'm sure Bain won't mind taking the tray back to the kitchen."

The guys exchanged a look. What the fuck? Did Knox suspect Bain as well? If anyone would know who to trust, or not trust, it would be him.
