"Can you shift with those?" I asked without thinking.

"Of course." She winked at me. "There wouldn't be much point looking this cool if I couldn't shift." She grinned.

I couldn't help but smile back. She was definitely cooler than I was, and she was easy to like. That didn't mean I was letting my guard down. Good cop, bad cop was the oldest trick in the book.

"Do you want some food?" She stood up from the chair she'd been sitting on.

I saw the tray now, covered by a silver cloche. I smelled beef, roast potatoes and gravy. The food would be cold by now, but I was hungry.

"I could try some," I agreed.

I was startled when the door handle moved and the door opened slowly.

My whole body stiffened until Knox stuck his face in the gap.

"You're awake." He stepped into the room, relief on his face. "How are you feeling?"

"Wobbly as fuck," I replied. I immediately turned to Wilma. "I'm sorry."

She laughed. "I've heard the word fuck before, love. I've even said it a time or two. Hades, I might have evendoneit. Tell you what, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone and get some fresh food made up. It's almost time for breakfast anyway."

"Thank you," I said.

She nodded, stepped past Knox, and closed the door behind her with a soft click.

Knox came and sat down on the bed beside me. "You had us worried for a while there." He reached for my hand and squeezed it gently.

"So Wilma said," I replied dryly. "Even Bain."

"Apparently he has feelings after all." Knox smiled faintly. "Who knew?"

"I wasn't sure," I admitted. "He's harder to read than a boulder."

"I think he likes it that way," Knox said. "But enough about him. I'm glad you're okay. When you went down like that, I thought…"

"What did you think?" I watched his expression through narrowed eyes.

"I thought we were under attack again," Knox said. "I'm not sure we can trust Slade. He's smart. Smart enough to fool us into lowering our guard. Well, almost." He did that smug, alpha guy thing, where they try to suggest they weren't fooled for a minute.

I rolled my eyes, then winced when my head hurt.

"Are you okay?" Knox moved closer. His brow was creased with concern. He was an attractive guy, but he looked worried. Hades, he was cute enough to eat. Or suck. A lot.

Whatever whammied me hadn't killed my sex drive. Good to know.

"I'm fine," I said. My eyes locked onto his and a rush of heat passed through my body.

"Yes, you are," he agreed. He leaned in and pressed his mouth to mine in a kiss that would have made me weak at the knees if I wasn't already.

Both of our mouths opened. Our tongues met in a heated clash of warm flesh on warm flesh. I sucked his like it was his cock, and grazed my teeth over the tip.

After an eternity, which included a full New Year's Eve fireworks display, he pulled away.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. You should be resting."

"You didn't hear me complaining, did you?" I asked. I couldn't exactly complain with his tongue halfway down my throat, but I didn't push him away either.

"Actually, I feel better now," I declared. Not ready to wrestle a dragon, but more like my usual self. Only much hungrier. For food and him. In that order.
