“Not without you,” he said, smiling softly. “Your life is more important. I won’t be the one to kill you.”

“Turn me then,” she said, the words tumbling from her lips before she could think about it.

His eyes went wide. “What?”

“Lucy’s magic is exhausted, she’s too weak to survive the bite and Harker is a wolf. His curse would only kill you faster. You can’t take their blood. So, take mine. Feed, heal, and then bring me back. Make me a vampire,” Mina said, struggling to lift him from the ground.

Erik let her move him, using what little strength he had to push himself up into a seated position, one hand pressed to his wound.

He leaned his forehead against hers. “I won’t turn you, Mina. I won’t damn you to this life. I’d never forgive myself.”

“Do it,” she said. “I’d gladly live for eternity damned at your side. I love you.I love youErik Vladislav Dracul. Drink my blood, be with me…forever….please.”

His eyes flicked back and forth as he took in the sincerity of her words. “Are you sure? If I…if I do this there’s no turning back.”

“I’m sure.” She nodded, pressing a kiss to his lips.

Erik leaned into her embrace for a moment and then a cough wracked his body. He was losing too much blood. He had to feed, and now.

Brushing all of her hair to one side, Mina tilted her head exposing the wound he’d already made in her neck. She trusted him to do this. He would not leave her dead. He would bring her back and everything would be okay.

Erik slid his bloody hand into her hair. “If this doesn’t work...I will see you in the afterlife, Starlight. No matter what.”

Mina closed her eyes. “I love you.”

He took a deep breath and bent to sink his teeth into her neck once again. She felt him draw on her blood and her heart pound in her ears.

Boom…boom…boom…each beat slower than the last. She could feel the cold of her death sinking into her bones. She knew she should be afraid, but in Erik’s arms all she felt was love. Her love for him, and his love for her. Visions of their time together floated through her mind, and she felt a great peace ease her pain. Every worry she had melted into nothing, and the darkness took her like a warm breeze carrying her out to sea.

Erik uttered four simple words. The last thing she would ever hear in this life.

“Starlight, I love you.”
