Trent

The smellof alcohol burned my nose as I heaved the body out of the back of my car and tossed it over my shoulder. There was only a dim light shining from the window in the kitchen, and it barely touched the carport where I’d parked. It was better this way, not being able to see. Darkness had always been the companion I needed to help me bring home my new friends, and tonight was no different than any other.

I grunted under the weight on my shoulder, and blinked away my lie. Tonight was different. Because I was defying my brother. I was going against one of his most important rules.

I was going to be in trouble with John, but Peter had already proved he was worth it. With his smooth skin, his warm, wet mouth, and that body… Surely, he’d like him too.

Punching in the code on the door’s keypad, I pushed inside and wiped my feet. With Peter still as a stone, I toed off my shoes and walked inside. Down the stairs I went, to my brother’s and my favorite room in the house.

He was there, John was. Sitting on the couch, just like he always did. He looked up at me as I descended, and even though I knew he’d be angry, I wasn’t prepared for the deep scowl on his face.

“What’s this?”

Without answering, I went to the center of the room and dropped to my knees on the mattress. As I set him down, I told John, “This is Peter.”

“Peter.” John stood from the couch and my body tensed as he came my way. He skirted around me, coming close but staying too far away. “Why did you bring him here?”

“He’s a present for you.”

John gripped my hair, dragging my head back until I was forced to look up at him. The bare lightbulb over his shoulder was blinding, and I wanted to close my eyes. “Are you trying to mess this up?”

Shaking my head wasn’t an option, not with the grip he had on my hair. But I’d learned long ago, speaking out of turn wasn’t acceptable. Taking a chance, I muttered, “No.”

My brother lowered his face close to mine, his stale breath gusting across my skin. “It’s only been two days since you pushed that guy off the cliff, and here you are, mucking things up again. Just like you always do.”

“No.” I managed to shake my head an inch, but it only caused John to tighten his grip. Pain tore through my scalp and tears pricked my eyes.

“You’re going to get caught.” It was just a whisper, and somehow that was worse than if he had yelled. “You’re going to get caught, and then they’re going to take you away from me, just like they tried to when you messed things up with Maddy.”

“No!” A strangled cry rose through the constriction in my throat. “You said that wasn’t my fault!”

John laughed, long and low. He pushed me away from him, and without the support of his hand in my hair, I fell to the ground. His foot landed hard against my gut, and all the breath I had in my lungs escaped, leaving me behind.

“Of course, that’s what I said.” He turned to Peter, but my friend didn’t flinch. “How else was I supposed to convince you to light the match and burn it all down?”

John grabbed Peter’s shirt and tore it open, revealing the sweat-slicked body I’d found so intriguing at the club tonight.

“I needed you, just like I always have.” John glanced up at me, then returned his attention to Peter. He took a knife from his pocket and used it to cut off the skin-tight leather pants that had been so smooth under my greedy hands. “And like a good baby brother, you were there for me. To comfort me. To make me feel good.”

He looked up once more, closing his knife and stuffing it back in his pocket. He stepped over Peter’s naked body, kneeling down at my side. “And I made you feel good too. Didn’t I?”

Just as he’d taught me when I was only a child, I let him touch me, pressing my face into his palm as if that comfort he offered would never be available again. He wrenched his hand away, but I didn’t have a chance to move before it was swinging right back at me, colliding with my cheek.

He was atop me in seconds, his legs on either side of me and his hand clenching my throat. “Did you fuck him, baby brother? Did you finally learn how to do it right?”

With my hands tearing at his, I frantically shook my head. A smirk tugged at his lips, and I slammed my eyes shut, fearing he could read the lie that was written there. He released my throat, only to backhand me across the face.

“You want to though, don’t you?”

“I brought him for you!”

“Aww. Sweet baby brother. You know what your problem is?”

“No.” My head was shaking again as I raised my hands between us. As if I could stop the next blow from coming.

As if.
