“Trenton.”
That laughter built again. “Dream of me, my pretty goddess. I know I’ll be dreaming of you.”
“Always you,” I whispered. “Come home soon.”
“Just as soon as I can. I promise.”
When we’d said our goodbyes and hung up, I sat there in my car, trying to get my heart rate and mind back in sync with where they should have been. Rather than thoughts of Trenton’s body hovering over mine, I tried to focus on my next class at Razor’s Edge. Rather than thoughts of Trenton’s hands spreading me open, I tried to focus on my friends here in Seaside.
As if the universe had a sick sense of humor, one of those friends stopped at the hood of my car. With a lock of blond hair dripping with sweat from his run, and his muscles glistening under the workout shirt that barely covered his upper body, Miller stood there, staring at me with a tempting smile on his lips.
I shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, my body betraying me even as my thoughts shifted from Trenton to him.
“Everything alright in there?” he called, his face pulling into a cocky grin.
The smile on my face? It was as weak and shaky as my legs as I climbed from my car. “I’m good,” I told him, though I knew I was anything but.
“I thought you were leaving.”
I shook my head. “Something came up.”
“So you’re free?” He stepped closer, and a different frequency began humming through my veins.
It took me a moment. My mind and body now fully shifted, I stepped forward to meet him where he stood. “I am.”
Pure glee lit his entire being, emanating out of him and spreading like wildfire over me. He extended his arm toward me, and I hooked my hand around it. “Right this way.”
Miller led me back into the gym, and I released him from my grip at the front desk. He grabbed a towel from his chair and I entered the back room. It took everything in me to stop from wrapping my arms around myself, and thoughts of Trenton were suddenly gone from my mind.
When Miller came up behind me, he wrapped an arm around my throat. Then he lowered his face to my ear and whispered, “Let’s do this.”
