ChapterTwelve

“Good morning, Red.” Darrio’s smooth voice was accompanied by a tug on my nipple that made me want to equal parts smack him and shove my breast forward into his touch. I cracked a lid to see the weak daylight from beyond the curtains struggling to illuminate the room.

“It’s not.”

“Not a good morning?”

“Not morning, period. Why are you up so early? And why do you hate me enough to wake me, too?”

“Believe me, I’d love nothing more than to stay in bed with your ass tucked back against me for the next few hours, but I figured you’d want a shower before class.” He proved his preference by squeezing me tighter to him and thrusting his morning erection against my soft flesh.

“Mmmm, shower-shmower. We’ve got far more important business to attend to.”

“I thought I’d have worn you out by now?”

Oh, he had. Thoroughly. After the third round, I’d passed out, only to wake a short while later to see that Sam had gone back to his room. Audience or not, I needed more, and I’d roused Darrio to give it to me. After that, we’d slept the rest of the night, but now my sex drive was whipped back into a frenzy by the heat of his flesh all along my back.

Thank the gods that Ben had been considerate—and smart—enough to stay away the whole night. It meant we were still alone in the room.

I lifted my leg enough to reach down between us and line his cock up with my pussy, then held him steady as he pushed slowly inside.

“I guess you’ll have to try harder to wear me out.”

He did. Good gods, he did.

I was still thinking about it hours later when classes were over and I walked with River to the library. It seemed that was where we spent most of our time these days, and from the gatherings of upperclassmen, that wasn’t going to change when our first year was over.

The day had started out exceptionally well–as my deliciously sore body could attest–and it had stayed that way almost the whole way through.

Until Brodgan caught up with me on our way to the library.

“Thea! I was hoping I’d run into you. Do you have a moment?”

“Of course.” I didn’t really want to hear whatever he was going to say since it never worked out well for me, but I couldn’t exactly say no, either.

I nodded at River, signaling her to go on without me before Brodgan and I stepped to the side, out of the smattering of student traffic as they moved through the halls.

“I spoke to Ms. Day earlier, updated her on your progress with maintaining control and accessing your power at will.”

I didn’t like where this was going. If it was positive news, he would have told me upfront, or even waited for our next session.

“She’s pleased, but has asked that we increase our sessions to ensure you’re well prepared for your next round of exams. There will be a practical element involved, and it could prove difficult if you are unable to tap into your ability.”

As expected. “Okay, when should I come to your office again?” I wasn’t enthused about the idea of spending more time letting Professor Brodgan poke around in my psyche, but after what I’d done to Illyria and Heath when I lost control, did I have a choice? And those were only the incidents they might be aware of. If what had happened in the city were to come out…

I’d take my sessions without complaint for now.

“Tomorrow, after classes have concluded for the day. That ought to give you some time to catch up on your coursework.”

Yeah, but it also meant I’d have to spend most of the night studying instead of enjoying time with Darrio as I’d planned.

“Great, I’ll be there.”

“Excellent. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon, Thea.” His smile was broad, but there was a glint in his eye I didn’t understand. Perhaps he was as reluctant to add more sessions to the schedule as I was.

I didn’t waste more of my more-valuable-than-ever free time trying to figure it out. I hoofed it to the library and headed straight for our usual table to join my friends.

“Thought you weren’t coming. What happened?” Rocky’s brow was furrowed in concern, her hand moving on the table as she rolled three small stones together. It had become a habitual thing, and I’d been meaning to ask her if it helped. I would think holding onto something connected to her aptitude had to center her. Maybe I should try that, too.
