‘Hello!’ said Roxy as she walked into the toilet and past the large mirror on the wall. ‘I meanciao! Sorry, I’m English. Are you in the queue?’
‘I don’t think she’s in the queue,’ said Bella, trying not to laugh. You can go on ahead.’ Neither of us had the heart to tell Roxy that she was talking to her own reflection...Bless.
Roxy stumbled off into the cubicle, pulled down her tights and knickers and plonked herself down on the loo. With the door still wide open…
‘How much has she had to drink?’ said Bella.
‘Alot.’
‘And God knows what she just drunk from that guy. Roxy, didn’t your mum teach you to not take drinks from strangers? You don’t know what was in his glass.’
‘Yes, Mum,’ Roxy called out.
‘Yep. She’s definitely pissed. I mean, we all are, but Roxy’s also been doing shots with Geli.’
‘Good thing we passed on that fourth round or we might be in here talking to our reflections too!’ Bella giggled.
I may have passed, but my legs and my head didn’t feel like it. I’d drunk more tonight than I probably did in a month before I was pregnant with Leo. Maybe even two. We might be laughing about Roxy, but like Bella had said, I probably wasn’t that far behind her. Pretty sure the ceiling was already moving…
What was I even doing standing here? I needed to go too.
I quickly dashed into the cubicle next to Roxy’s, shutting the door behind me.
‘Oooh! That feelssooogood,’ Roxy shouted. Thank God we were the only ones in here.
‘I know, right? Since having Leo, I feel like I always need to go to the loo and I was just saying to myself the other day that the feeling of relief after having a wee is better than sex.’
‘What?’ Roxy shouted again. ‘Soph, if that’s what you think, then you need to get laid much more than I thought!’
She probably wasn’t wrong. I flushed the toilet and stepped outside to wash my hands.
‘Oh!Scusa!’ gasped a woman who just walked in, passed Roxy’s cubicle and got a full view of her yanking up her knickers.
Only Roxy.
‘Sorry, don’t mind her,’ I said as Roxy finally stepped out. Bella, who was definitely the soberest out of us all, quickly pulled down Roxy’s skirt, which was tucked into the back of her tights.
What was she like?
When we got back outside to the dance floor, Geli was at the table with another round of drinks.
Oh God. No way...
‘Honestly, Geli, more drinks? I don’t think I can.’
‘Is not strong. Is almost like water…’
‘It doesn’t look like water!’ I glanced at the yellow liquid.
‘Okay, is like lemon juice. Is good for you.’
Roxy and Geli picked up their glasses and drank them swiftly. And despite just saying minutes ago that we were wise to pass on the fourth round of shots, surprisingly even Bella downed hers too. I lifted mine up cautiously and took a little sip.
