“I just thought I’d make it easier on everyone over here.”

“I keep telling you not to put yourself out, just to accommodate others. They should accommodate to you.”

That’s what I’ve been saying.

“I’ve been saying the same thing for years,” I said, agreeing with her.

“Our girl’s a stubborn one, isn’t she?” Jade winked.

Thrilled that she referenced Stephanie asour girl, gave me hope. “But that’s what we love about her. Isn’t it?” I said, knowing full well I used the word love.

Of course, the word wasn’t lost on Jade and I witnessed a slight reaction from Stephanie herself, but it was Taylor who looked skeptical.

“So, Stephanie tells us you’re quite the athlete,” she says, changing the subject.

Amused that I come up in conversation, I couldn’t help the smile that slipped across my lips. “Does she now?” I teased, my eyes swinging her way.

Sending Taylor a look, Stephanie shrugs. “Well, you are, aren’t you?”

“I think his stat record is all the proof we need,” Bradly spoke up on my right.

“Oh good, you made it,” I said. “Is Seth on his way?” I asked, looking over Bradly’s shoulder as the group grew silent.

“He’ll be along in a minute. I think he’s grabbing something from the snack bar,” Bradly explained, hitching his thumb over his shoulder.

“There’s a snack bar?” Jade and Taylor sang in unison.

“Yeah. Can I get either of you something?”

Taylor’s lips curled into a smile. “How about you just lead the way, Romeo? We can get our own snacks.”

???

As the previews started, Stephanie slowly leans back into me. Laying us back on the lounger, Stephanie drapes the throw blanket over the top of us and curls into me. Seeing this as an opportunity to get closer to her, I wrap Stephanie tighter into my arms as she cocoons herself against me. Sighing into my chest, all hopes of watching this film go out the window when all I can focus on is the way Stephanie’s body fits against mine.

Shifting my attention between the movie and the way Stephanie feels in my arms, the weight of these past few years slowly lessens with each combined breath we take. As if Stephanie knew exactly what I needed, she turned her head sideways and laid it on my beating chest. Breathing in the scent of her shampoo, a mixture of roses and vanilla filled my senses, as Stephanie sighed.

This moment couldn’t get any better.

Letting my thoughts carry me away, the movie was long forgotten as my imagination dreamed up a future for Stephanie and I. Conjuring up some ungentlemanly things, I could have sworn Stephanie felt where my thoughts had led me when she moaned against me.

Lifting her gaze to mine, Stephanie’s eyes softened when they met mine. Seeing her cheeks flush with color, I could tell the closeness was getting to her. Hoping I was reading the signs right, I whispered. “Can I kiss you?”

Peering up at me for a moment, she nodded.

Placing my hand on her cheek, Stephanie closed her eyes just seconds before my lips touch hers. A groan builds in my chest as her hand trailed up my chest, my neck, and my face. Tasting the residual butter from the popcorn we were sharing still on her lips, everything around us disappeared when her warm body pressed flush against mine with need.

When the movie ends, I mentally groan at the fact that we have to move. Peering down at Stephanie, I’m sure she’s just as reluctant to move as I am when she sighs.

“Why did that feel like the world’s shortest movie?” She asks, righting herself.

Curling my lip, I shook my head. “It did, didn’t it?” I replied, extending my hand to help her up. “Can I help you up?”

Searching my eyes, hers looked like they might be on the verge of tears.

We’ll have more nights like these sweet girl.

Placing her hand in mine, Stephanie pressed her lips together as she nodded. “Thank you,” she whispered as her fingers tightened around my hand.
