CHAPTER SIXTEEN

What If?

Stephanie

The Gee Spot Bar is known for its bustling offshore nightlife, as well for hosting a series of guest DJs and performers. Rumors around the deck say that the bar never closes before four am.

Lining up outside the door, it’s already bumping inside and it’s not even nine. Standing in line, we’ve been waiting maybe twenty minutes before we’re suddenly invited to the front of the line. Ushered inside, the music was now thumping in my chest, the lights dancing around us.

Watching where I was going, the bar was so packed, I literally had to squeeze past people just to keep moving.

Following the hostess as she escorted us to a section off to the side. I wondered if she was leading us towards this spot because of me and Anne Marie and our chairs, or if the VIP section was reserved because of the retreat. Either way, I was happier over here, off to the side.

“Look at all this,” Jade sings, looking out over the bar. “Isn’t it freakin’ wild?” She asked over the music.

After a round of drinks, I felt more settled as I spent some quality time with not only the girls, but Logan too. During the karaoke hour the couple on stage started singing ‘Cool Again’ by Kane Brown, I couldn’t help myself from humming along.

“You like Kane Brown?” Logan asked over the music.

“I do,” I nodded. “How about you?”

“I like a couple of songs,” he admitted with a shrug.

“You guys are seriously cute together,” Jade said, watching us. “You should totally get on stage and sing something together.”

“No, that’s okay,” I said, shaking my head.

“Oh, come on. You’re a brilliant singer,” Jade pressed. “You sing with us all the time.”

“Singing in your living room is not the same as singing in front of a crowd.”

“Details, details,” Jade replied. “What about you, Logan? Do you do karaoke?”

“I’ve got on stage a time or two,” he chuckled.

“See. Logan knows how to have fun.”

“Hey. I know how to have fun. I just don’t enjoy making a fool of myself in front of a crowd of people.”

"Don't let her fool you, the girl can sing." Taylor says.

“You know, that’s something I’d like to see.”

Staring him in the eyes, I could see the laughter hidden in their depths. “Don’t get any ideas,” I chuckled. “It’s not happening.”

Logan shakes his head with a snicker.

“There’s no way I’m getting up on stage, so don’t even think about it. Any of you,” I said, narrowing my eyes at the girls.

“Mmm hmm,” Jade hummed. “On that note, I’ll be right back,” she said, shifting out of the booth. “I’ve gotta hit the ladies’ room.”

Watching her push to her feet, a part of me didn’t believe her. Exchanging a look with Taylor, her lips curled. “What?”

“You two better not be planning anything.”

“Who? Us?” Taylor continues to play.

“Guys,” I whine.
