“As in our Stephanie?” She asked.

“Our Stephanie?”

“You know, ever since we learned about our parent’s separation, Stephanie and I have become close. She and I talk often, only rule is we don’t speak of you.”

“No. I had no idea the two of you stayed in contact.”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“I don’t know. I guess I just assumed she dropped us both. How come you never told me?”

“I didn’t think it mattered. Stephanie kind of became the sister I never had.”

“I didn’t know you felt that way.”

“She supported me through some pretty rough times. And I was there for her as well,” she breathed.

Was she referring to the incident between Stephanie and Nick?

“I think that’s great Mia. Honestly, I do.”

“And hey, maybe running into each other will give the two of you a chance to get to know each other again. You know she’s never fully gotten over you? Right.”

What does she mean, never got over me?

“Promise me you won’t blow it this time.”

“What are you talking about? We’re just friends,” I lied.

“Yeah, right! The two of you can stick to that story if you want to, but I know better.”

“Are you implying Steph had a thing for me?”

“I think you already know the answer to that,” she laughs. “But Clea just walked in, so I’ve got to go.”

“Yeah okay. Talk to you later.”

Disconnecting the line, I was happy to learn Mia and Stephanie had continued to support and encourage each other, even though I was no longer in the picture.

Expressing his concern, Bradly asked. “Everything alright?”

Running my hand through my hair, I brought up Stephanie’s contact upon instinct. “Yeah, everything’s fine. Nothing a little brunch can’t solve,” I said, my thoughts still elsewhere. “Does anyone care to join me?” I asked, exiting out of her contact for the third time this morning.

“I take it you’re meeting up with a certain someone?” Bradly pressed, curiosity written all over his face.

“I might be headed in that direction,” I knowingly smirked. “ You two care to join me? I happen to know a couple of attractive single ladies will be in attendance.”

Shaking his head with amusement, Bradly acted like he wasn’t already thinking about it himself.

“And what makes you think I’m interested?” Bradly shook his head with amusement.

“Aren’t you though?”

“I’ve only met her once. She’s nice.”

“Ah-ha. So you are interested. I knew it.”

“I didn’t say that.”
