CHAPTER TEN

We Have History

Stephanie

Even though we were full from dinner, we made a promise to Taylor to check out Brain Freeze before the movie. The line in the busy shop looked impossibly too long for us to get in and get out on time.

“Are you sure you want to wait in this line?” I asked, being jostled for the third time.

Taylor spins around to pin me with a glare and a huff.

With a laugh escaping my throat, “I guess you do,” I replied.

From beside us, Jade whined. “What time is it? My feet are killing me from all this waiting.”

Turning to my watch, I whistled. “Let’s just say we’re not making the movie.”

“Seriously? It can’t be that late, is it?”

“It’s after nine,” I replied.

“You mean to tell me we’ve been waiting in line for over an hour and a half?” Jade stomped her foot. “This better be worth it.”

“Trust me. It’ll be worth it,” Taylor reassured us.

Finally, approaching the display cases, there were rows upon rows of different flavors, everything from rocky road, mint chocolate, cookie dough, tiger tail, cherry jubilee, bubble gum, and more.

“What flavor are you getting?” Jade asked, looking over the options.

“What do you mean by flavor? I’m mixing and matching after this wait,” I said teasingly. “How about you?”

“Something with coffee in the title.”

Taylor laughs. “That narrows it down.”

“What are you getting, Taylor?”

Thinking it over, her lips twisted with indecision. “Either maple walnut or cookie dough with peanut butter sauce.”

“Oh? Cookie dough with peanut butter sauce sounds decadent. Here I am thinking about getting a scoop of bubble gum, mint chocolate, and tiger tail.”

“You had me until you added the tiger tail,” Jade said.

“What? I like it and you can’t get any back home.” Taylor’s eyes swung in my direction.

“What do you mean you can’t get it back home? I see it at my ice cream shop all the time.”

“Where are you shopping?”

“When we get back home, we’re totally going on an ice cream date.”

“You’re on. Unless there’s a wait like this. Then I’m out,” I said, the smirk clear in my tone.

“You two will never let this go, will you?” Taylor’s brow rose.

“Not anytime soon,” Jade said, shaking her head with amusement.

Moving up in the line, it took another fifteen minutes to reach the counter. By then I had changed my mind again opting for one scoop of cookies and cream. Taylor placed our order while Jade and I moved closer to the cash register. Removing my Ocean Tides’ charge card, I blocked off the register.
