Thrilled they had given me the spotlight, I pulled Leon in for a hug. “Thank you so much, sir. I really appreciate the opportunity.”

“I believe in what you offer, Logan, and the kindness you show to the finer pieces of life tells me you’re a good man.”

I clutch my chest with pride. “Thank you, sir.” My breath comes easier.

“Come by the kitchen tomorrow afternoon and we’ll create a grocery list to make sure we have everything. Maybe do a test run in the show kitchen to get you familiar with the place. Yeah?”

“Yes, sir,” I said, pressing my lips together to contain my excitement.

Observing the way Ronnie assisted his father, I wondered if my father was there for Opa in his time of need. Just thinking about the end of Opa’s life brought all the pain back. Dragging my hand over my mouth, I siphoned off the emotion as I turned towards Stephanie’s table.

Finding their table abandoned, I rushed over in a panic.

When did they leave?

Pulling my phone from my pocket, I still didn’t have any cell bars. Returning to the table, a server began clearing their plates. “Sorry,” I said, stepping aside.

“No worries,” he said, before looking at me with recognition. “Hey, you’re that hockey player, right? Were you looking for the party that was sitting here?”

“Actually, yes and yes. You wouldn’t have overheard any plans they might have tonight, would you?” I asked, sounding like a stalker.

“I heard them talking about seeing a movie, but I didn’t catch which theater,” he offered. “But they didn’t order dessert with their meal,” he continued. “The redhead said something about grabbing ice cream on the way. Maybe look there.”

“Thank you,” I said, patting his back on my way out.

Glancing up and down the deck, I did not know where to begin. Think, Logan, you looked at the amenities before boarding. What was the name of the ice cream place?

At my side, Bradly asked. “Something I can help you with?”

How long has he been standing there?

“I was looking for someone. But I missed them.”

“You’re talking about the girl from before, right? The group that was sitting across the room at dinner?”

Turning my attention his way with hope, I said. “What do you know?”
