Continuing with the Italian theme, Ipoured tomato sauce into apan, heated the water for the spaghetti, and opened abottle of red wine.

As Iworked on stirring the sauce, Erin sneaked behind me, her arms enveloping my waist, her cheek resting on my back. “What is this delicious smell?”

Ihalf turned, kissing her hair, still damp and smelling of my shampoo. My home suited her well. She moved around me, and Ilifted the wooden spoon to her mouth. “Taste it. Tell me what you think.”

When she blew on it, her plump lips puckered, and then she closed her eyes, allowing me to slip it into her mouth.

Fuck me.

Then her tongue swiped the sauce from the corners of her now red mouth.

Concentrate.

Food. Friends.

“You like putting things in my mouth, don’tyou?”

Fuck.

Iturned my head to the side and coughed, careful to steer myself away from the food. “You…”

She winked at me, humoring herself. “Ismell more stuff. What else are you making?”

“Look around.” My throaty voice managed to compose aclear sentence. “Itold you, make yourself at home.”

If all went well, like Ibelieved, we would really share this home one day.

Erin’sbare feet tapped around the kitchen. She bent to see what was in the oven, sniffed the wine from the bottle left to air out, and leaned against the counter. Istopped stirring and just admired her beauty without turning my head away. Not anymore.

Her skinny jeans hugged the curves of her butt, fitting snugly. The pale coffee-colored blouse she donned lifted enough to show her soft belly, her face free of makeup. She felt at home, and Ifelt like Inever wanted her to leave.

The tomatoes popping out of the pan jolted me back to the present and to aknowingly grinning Erin. “Impressive. You cooked all of this while Igot dressed?”

Inodded, about to say that really wasn’tmuch when the doorbell rang. The sauce and spaghetti were ready, so Iturned down the stove and walked to turn off the oven when Ibrushed Erin’sarm. She grasped my shirt, brushing her lips to mine, distracting me until Iforgot what Iwanted to do.

Then the doorbell rang again. Right.

On my way to the door, Isighed alaugh and shook my head and then opened it to Zach and Laura who Irecognized from Erin’sphotos and the couple times I’dseen them.

“Hey, missed you during the holidays.” Zach patted my back and pointed at Laura with his thumb. “Iran into this lady and realized we were walking in the same direction. Feels like my lucky day.”

“Ialready told you my name is Laura.” She tried her hardest to hold back asmile.

They liked each other. That was perfect.

Ioffered her my hand and she shook it. “We met before and Ihope to make abetter impression this time.”

“I’msure you will, now that you’re not trying to bite Erin’shead off.”

My eyes widened at her stern expression.

“I’mjoking, Thomas.” She laughed, her eyes searching for Erin. “If Erin likes you, then Ilike you.”

Zach patted Laura’sback and she returned his smile. At least someone had fun with the idea. “Laura, Itold you it was fate that we came together.”

Just when it felt like the two of them were about to start afull-on roast of me, Erin’scheery voice reached from behind us. “Laura!” She ran up to her and they hugged each other, then she introduced herself to Zach.

He turned in my direction and whisper shouted, “Good things come in small packages.”
