Releasing a shriek, I hurled the clock, aiming for his head. He ducked, the clock exploding against the wall with a terrific noise. I tore at the bedding, leaped onto the mattress, frantic for some sort of getaway route. When the lead man made it to the side of the bed, I jumped off the other. I ran toward my sitting room, but he latched onto me with his arms around my waist.

He pulled me right off the floor, my feet left bicycling in the air.

Terror made it hard to breathe properly, the strength of his arms crushing against my ribcage.

Then, after clamping a hand over my mouth, he muttered, “Your uncle finally figured out how you’ve been escaping. The tunnels. Very clever, Roya.”

He held my jaw so hard I couldn’t even bite the bastard. Another man came forward. He quickly tied something around my head, both men moving in tandem so within seconds I was gagged by the cloth.

Something else dark came toward my face before it was pulled over my head. Suddenly they had me hooded too.

I screamed muffled shouts, shaking my head and wriggling my arms and legs.

Until a sharp pinch jabbed into the side of my neck, and that was all I remembered.
