I turned jumping into his arms. “Oh, how I love you!”

CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

HAYDEN

This has been one hell of a year. I started the year off single. I’m pleased to say I will end the year with a beautiful wife. I’m thankful I met her. I couldn’t see being married to another woman. Lydia was just as beautiful at our second wedding as she was at the first. She didn’t wear a veil the second time around allowing me to focus on her gorgeous face on her trip down the aisle. Lydia and I danced the night away at our reception. I loved both of our weddings. I had the best of both worlds. Our first wedding was small and intimate. Our second wedding was special because we shared and created new memories with family and friends.

I sometimes can’t believe we don’t have anything to fight about anymore. We argue about little things like what city we should visit in the south of France or where we should go for dinner. I think I’ll have to buy us a villa in Cannes, France. Lydia didn’t want to leave. She loved the large dance party. She said it was the best birthday present. We had the time of our life while we were there. Dancing on the beach to the lively music was relaxing and refreshing. We stood amongst a large crowd watching each band perform. Women laughed amongst themselves while staring at me. I only noticed because Lydia became territorial over me. She turned in my arms, grabbed my face passionately kissing my lips, then laid her head on my chest, smiling at the gawkers.

“Lydia, really.”

“What? They don’t have to stare at you, drooling.”

“Men stare at you too, I chose to ignore it.”

“Oh now, you ignore it.” She folded her arms staring at me.

“Not the same baby and you know it.” I kissed her forehead.

She smiled. “I know, baby.”

I made love to Lydia every day. I couldn’t stop myself. A part of me needed reassurance that only I owned her body. Sometimes I’d stay in the shower a longer trying to deal with the thoughts of Curtis violating my wife. I was supposed to be the only man to touch her. I hope with each passing day those thoughts will cease.

My refuge is her smile. I love making her smile a hundred times a day. I try to hang on to that. The way Lydia looks at me, the way she whispers in my ear telling me she loves me and couldn’t live without me fuels my love for her. Shit, we almost killed ourselves because our relationship crashed and burned. Since then our love for each other has become stronger than ever. I don’t want to live without Lydia. When we are old and its time to leave this earth, I want to hold her in my arms. I want us to take our last breath at the same time.

Being able to spoil my woman rotten is the best feeling. Lydia doesn’t act stuck up or ungrateful. She’s appreciative and humble. My wife’s spirit is unmatched. I wasn’t surprised my entire family loves her. Thanksgiving my grandfather personally introduced Lydia to everyone at the holiday celebration. My grandmother asked Lydia two times when we were staring a family.

The sadness that was once in my wife’s eyes is no longer there. I’m aware she still misses her mother, but she doesn’t let it consume her any more.

Skiing helps Lydia keep her mother’s memory alive. I didn’t tell Lydia where we were spending Christmas. I wanted to be alone with my wife for the holiday.

“Welcome to Aspen, Colorado.” the Pilot announced.

Lydia’s eyes shot over to me. The tears instantly poured down her face. My heart broke for her. I held her in my arms crying with her. I felt her deep-rooted pain.

“This is my gift to you, Lydia. Memories.”

She clung to me. “Hayden, you certainly know how to touch a girl’s heart. I’m so happy you are my husband.”

“I would do anything to make you happy. Let’s go, baby.”

We stood in the main aisle. “But Hayden, we aren’t dressed for this weather.”

“You’re right. Close your eyes. I’ll be right back.”

I returned wrapping her in a full length black mink coat. “Open your eyes.”

“Oh, my God! Hayden! Lydia’s hands slipped down the silky fur.

“It’s beautiful!”

“I was hoping you would like it. We can worry about dressing warm once we reach our destination.”
