Valen laughed. “She doesn’t want anyone to do anything for her. I had to push back a few times today. You might want to tell her why the tight security on her all of sudden.” He puffed his cigar.

“I told her she wasn’t safe and needed to stop stripping. She became angry and left.”

He leaned forward. “I told you not every woman is going to be quick to let a man take care of them. She is an independent southern woman who came from a good home. Hayden, she is not hard up for money. She will come around in time.”

“So, in the meantime I’m supposed to get used to her stripping.”

“Hayden, yes. I understand why you are frustrated. I wouldn’t want my woman stripping either.”

I glanced out the window, puffing my cigar.

“Don’t run her away Hayden.”

I groaned. “Let me get Sebastian on the line.” I called Sebastian on speaker.

“Hello.”

“Sebastian, Val and I are here.”

“Hey, Val.”

“What’s up buddy?”

“Fucking jet lag! Let’s get down to business. The police have followed my bread crumbs I leaked to social media about Bobby Holmes having child porn on his computer. After the anonymous tip about the bodies in the woods, they came across the children’s pics in his home and are tying him to the murders. Too bad he vanished.”

“Yeah, fucking good riddance!”

“Are you going to tell Lydia about Bobby?”

“Yes, Sebastian. I will tell her when we return from our trip. Maybe she’ll stop stripping.”

Valen shook his head in disbelief.

“Hayden, I doubt it. Alright, fellows. Let me know if you need anything else. Bye.”

I disconnected the call.

“I’m going to change the subject. You are not going to listen. Lydia said she told you about Curtis Bottner. She didn’t want me to mention him to you. I might have made him a little nervous.”

“Good! Yeah, she told me he liked her and how she felt bad for letting him down telling him she couldn’t date him.”

Valen glanced at me above the brim of his glass. “I doubt he will accept her answer. He was excited to see her.”

“I want to know everything about Mr. Bottner. Valen find out all you can. I’ll be happy to shatter his fucking dreams.” I pointed my cigar at him in remembrance.

“While I’m away check out Lydia’s other regular customers. I slid the list Sebastian sent me across the table.”

“I’m on it.”

I worked for another two hours then set my alarm clock for 2:00 a.m. Not sure why I was fighting sleep I only slept about six hours in the last two days. I needed this rest. I felt slightly refreshed when I awoke.

Leaning against my Porsche in the strip club parking lot, waiting for Lydia, I felt my five o’clock shadow getting thicker. My black hair was wild, dangling in my face. The club finally closed and customers were leaving. My hands sank deep into the pockets of my black leather bomber jacket. Rich guy waiting for his woman outside the strip club. A smirk curled my lips at the thought. I’ll stand out here every night with my heart in my hand for her. I decided to research stocks on my phone, helped pass the time until she exited the club.

“I guess you don’t need a ride home Scrumptious. Rich boy is here!” I heard a woman yell.

I glanced up, slipping my cell into my back pocket. Bouncing off the car, I walked forward. Lydia walked down the stairs slow saying her goodbyes to the ladies.

She stood in front of me gazing into my blue eyes.

“I’m sorry Lydia.”

Gripping her waist lightly, she slipped her arms around my neck, I pulled her close. My lips taking hers for all to see. I didn’t give a shit. I only cared she knew I was sorry. Brushing her cheek with my thumb, I stood hypnotized by her steel gray eyes.

“Do you accept my apology?”

“Yes.”

Our fingers intertwined, I led her to the passenger side of the car.”

“The bouncers whistled from across the parking lot. “Somebody is in love,” they clapped.

I smirked as I hopped into the driver seat.

“How was your night?”

“Good. My boss wasn’t upset I took off this weekend. I guess the money you paid him made it worth his while.”
