“What?”
“I bet you make an amazing hot chocolate, yet we just paid for this weak piss,” Grim said.
Betty laughed. “It can’t be that bad, surely.”
She was braver than him, as she lifted it to her lips and took a sip. At first, she had a rather pleasant look on her face that was quickly replaced by disgust.
“Oh, my, that’s horrible.” She wrinkled her nose.
“Dishwater?”
“Yeah, and not even a good meal has been washed in it.”
He looked down at his hot chocolate. “Let’s get out of here.”
Betty laughed, and he threw down some cash and left the café. Either they were really shit, and people who went there ate the food and drank the drinks because they were desperate, or the staff wanted to close as quickly as possible, even though they were supposed to stay open until twelve.
They were back on his bike, and it was a good hour to her home. The drive seemed to go by exceedingly quickly. It surprised him.
This time, Betty didn’t need any help getting off his bike, but she did wait for him, and they entered the kitchen together.
“How about I make us some hot chocolate?” she asked.
“That’s what I was hoping.”
Another chuckle from Betty.
While she got to work making them a hot chocolate, he saw Aunt Martha was by the door, and she held a thumbs-up to him.
He gave her a thumbs-up, and he was going to take care of Betty and give her what she needed. Martha looked relieved, and offered him a good night.
He turned back to Betty, to find her at the fridge, pulling out a piping bag. “I whipped some cream earlier.”
He took a seat at the counter, as within ten minutes, Betty had produced them both a hot chocolate, complete with a marshmallow, whipped cream, and even chocolate sprinkles. They all looked amazing.
Betty sat opposite him, and she took a sip. “Delicious,” she said.
She had a little whipped cream on her nose, and he grabbed some tissue, wiping it off. Her face went bright red. “You cannot take me anywhere.”
“I didn’t try their hot chocolate, but this is a sin.”
This made her laugh.
“I loved the ride, thank you.”
“Thank you for being such a good passenger.” He held his glass up for her to clink with it, which she did.
“So, um, what are you doing tonight?” Betty asked.
“Do you want me to stay?” He had every intention of staying, just so Betty could fall asleep.
“If you don’t mind, I would like that. You can have your own room.”
“Or I can stay in yours.”
“Yeah, absolutely, you could stay in mine. Do you need me to get you a change of clothes?” she asked.
Again, she had such a cute blush staining her cheeks, that it made him smile.
