Roman lifted one brow. “It is in most human courts.”
I bared my teeth. “She’s fine.”
Lucien made a kissing noise. “Aww. Listen to him. ‘She’s fine.’ He’s in love.”
“I am not in love.”
Volken gasped theatrically. “He’s not in love. He’s just prepared to murder the entire city of London if anyone looks at her for longer than two seconds.”
Draugr murmured, “Accurate.”
I glared at the screen. “You’re all enjoying this too much.”
Volken grinned. “Oh, absolutely. You were insufferable when we found our mates.”
“I wasn’t insufferable.”
Lucien immediately said, “You told me love was a weakness.”
Volken added, “You told me mating bonds were an excuse for poor self-control.”
Roman surprised me as he chimed in, “You told me that if I couldn’t handle being away from my mate for a week I should ‘rip my own heart out and replace it with discipline.’”
Lucien nodded once, like he remembered it vividly. “You did say that.”
I stared at them. “I stand by that advice.”
Lucien clutched his chest. “He stands by it! While probably following his mate around the mansion like an angry bird.”
Draugr, completely unhelpful, added, “He assigned two changelings to watch her breathe.”
I whipped my head toward him. “I did not…”
“You did,” Draugr said.
Lucien looked scandalized. “Two? Not one? Oh Viking, you romantic lunatic.”
“I am not romantic.”
Lucien snorted. “He probably snarls when she talks to herself.”
Volken leaned in again, voice dripping with glee. “Tell us her name.”
I hesitated. For half a beat, and they caught it immediately.
Lucien’s eyes widened. “Oh my God, he hesitated. He’s precious.”
Draugr said, “Bryn.” The teasing hit a crescendo.
Volken made a sound like he was emotionally overwhelmed. “Bryn. That’s it. That’s the name of the woman who made Viking Dragic soft.”
“I’m not fucking soft, if you were here I would show you.” I snapped.
Lucien sighed dreamily. “Bryn. I’m sure he says it like a prayer.”
I leaned forward, voice deadly calm. “I will personally fly home just to break your jaw.”
Lucien only laughed harder. “HE’S THREATENING ME. ROMAN, HE’S THREATENING ME BECAUSE HE’S EMBARRASSED!”
