Their Rejected Queen

When I realize she’s joking, I get a glimpse of a soft smile from her before she retreats to work with the items on the tray.

“This part will use wolf and vampire DNA as an injection,” Ulara informs me as she draws out the clear liquid into the left syringe, red liquid for the right, then flicks it a few times to get the air bubbles out of both containers.

“Whose DNA?” I ask. If I’m going to be injected with someone’s DNA, then I want to know who it belongs to.

“The first wolf shifter to have crossed into this realm and settled on Monster Isle,” Godric supplies.

“And the original vampire who joined him,” Arwan adds.

Both men speak of the “originals” as if they were gods.

Who knows? Maybe they were.

“Both at the same time?” I ask as my voice squeaks. Ulara holds up the large double syringe, and I can’t look away from it.

Just like with Arwan’s mirror, I might also be cursed with the ability to see my own death.

My fingers twitch toward where my vials should be, but a sudden voice inside my head makes me freeze.

You’ll survive it. The familiar, silky tone belongs to a male I’ll never forget.

The Outcast.

How do you know? I think back. I only took one drop of that tonic the night before, but now that the Outcast has opened a telepathic channel to me again, maybe I can still make use of it.

Or something else is connecting us. That thought concerns me even more.

Whether or not he hears me, he doesn’t give me anything else.

“This is how it’s done,” Ulara says as the strong scent of alcohol burns my nose. Sure, they might risk my life with wolf and vampire DNA, but we can’t have me dying of an infection.

“Hold still,” she instructs as she cups my elbow and extends my arm. “This will hurt.”

The needle prick is nothing compared to the burn that follows. A scream rips from my throat, and then everything goes black.

CHAPTER 10

Pain is quickly followed by pleasure.

Gods.

I open my eyes to a world hazy with shimmering light.

And hands.

Four hands.

No… six.

They caress me as a deep ache burns low in my stomach and radiates between my legs. I need them there.

Their mouths.

Their touch.

Their seed.

“Please,” I beg, not even sure what I’m begging for as Arwan cups my face and pulls me into a kiss.
