“Thank you,” Ruby said, her voice so full of gratitude that Fee doubted her motivations all over again.

“Of course.”

“Fee?” Rafe’s rough voice appeared on the line.

“Hi, Rafe. Is Knox back yet?”

“No. And no one seems to know where he is.”

“How odd.”

A low growl filled her ear, and it must have shown on her face because Theo suddenly sat at attention.

“What have you heard, Fee? What do the nymphs know?”

Fee cleared her throat, her gaze flicking out the window to the light snow falling through the trees.

“Nothing,” she said, imagining what would happen if Rafe knew where Lena was. He would tear his brother apart. He would ruin the whole plan.

And then what would Phoebe do?

What would her sisters do?

What the hell would Rafe and Theo and their pack do?

Lying now would save them all later.

“They haven’t seen or heard from Knox or Lena.”

Rafe grumbled.

“That seems unlikely.”

“Well, it’s true.”

Theo was up and moving before she noticed, grabbing the phone from her hand.

He hung up on Rafe.

Fee sputtered a laugh. “Why did you do that?”

Theo shrugged, tossing her phone on the couch and ignoring the fact that Rafe was already calling back. “You don’t need to take shit from that guy. You’re trying to help and he’s accusing you of being a liar. That’s crap.”

“You could hear him?”

“He’s a loud motherfucker,” Theo said with a grin. “Now what’s the plan?”

Theo’s faith in her made her feel warm inside, and also like she might throw up. She prayed he would forgive her when this was all over.

“There’s a waterfall.”

Theo’s face lit up for the first time today, genuine excitement glimmering in his eyes.

“I love a waterfall.”
