I look at the silver grass beneath my feet. “I hope he'll live for himself.”
The dagger flashes through my mind. Selena behind me. Candice moving toward her. Me stepping between them.
“Do you regret it?”
“No. I wasn't going to let her kill them.” I meet her eyes. “I'd do it again.”
“I know.”
For a moment, only the silver leaves move above us.
Then the Moon Goddess says, “Selena and her daughter are important to the future of the Lycan race.”
I frown. “What does that mean?”
“Help Selena find her true history.”
I stare at her. “And how exactly am I supposed to do that? I'm dead.” I motion around us. “Even if I was alive, I wouldn't know where to start.”
The Moon Goddess gives me a small smile. “How about the library?”
“The library?”
Before I can ask another question, a soft sound comes from behind me. I turn. My wolf stands beneath the glowing tree.
My breath catches. She runs toward me. I drop to my knees just before she reaches me. My arms wrap around her neck as she presses against me, and I bury my face in her fur.
Arlene.
Tears spill down my cheeks. "I missed you."
Missed you.
I hold her tighter. "I thought I'd never feel you again."
She licks my cheek.
I laugh. “Yeah, I missed that too.”
Sapphire blue light flickers beneath her paws. I pull back as the light winds through the silver grass, circles her legs, then races toward me.
“What is that?”
It touches my knees. Warmth rushes through me.
My wolf watches the blue light climb over us. Powerful.
"You feel that too?"
Yes.
The sapphire glow flashes brighter. Heat burns across the back of my neck.
“Ow.” My hand flies behind me. “What was that?”
The Moon Goddess watches me. I wait. Nothing.
“Seriously?”
