He runs beneath us, pushing harder, but we're already climbing above the trees. His howl tears through the night as despair rips through our mate bond.
Selena! Diana!
"I can't stop!"
Come back!
"I'M TRYING!"
Diana giggles and reaches one tiny hand toward the glowing moon. My Lycan hums again. Our pup is flying.
"WE are flying!"
Powerful.
"Stop being proud!"
Can't. Our baby’s strong.
Despite my panic, something inside me nearly laughs.
Then my Lycan goes quiet. The satisfaction fades. Wait.
My heart pounds. "What?"
Feel that?
The power around us shifts. Diana's laughter softens. I feel it. A pull. Not from behind us. Ahead.
The white light surrounding us stretches through the darkness like it's reaching for something. My Lycan watches with me. Don't know.
For the first time, uncertainty enters her voice. Then another pulse moves through Diana. The pull strengthens.
My body changes direction. Trees blur beneath us as we're carried deeper into Silver Moon territory. My Lycan goes very still. Something calling.
"What?"
Don't know.
The cemetery appears ahead. My breath catches. “No.”
We slow. Diana stops giggling. White light spills over the graves as we descend, but my feet never touch the ground. We hover several feet above the earth.
Directly over Arlene's grave.
My Lycan whispers inside me. Arlene.
All the panic drains out of me. I stare down at the place where we buried my best friend. My sister. “Oh my Goddess.”
Diana lifts her hand. The ground trembles. I tighten my arms around her. The earth beneath Arlene's grave cracks. “Baby...”
Another tremor rolls through the cemetery. Dirt begins shifting away from the grave, rolling backward as the opening widens. My Lycan watches in stunned silence.
"Is this us?"
A pause. I don't know.
Something moves beneath the earth. Wood appears.
