“Explain.”

“He’s teaching her that the Elders make the decisions and she represents them. If she disagrees, she’s supposed to accept their guidance. He’s reducing her authority while making it sound like she’s learning how to rule.”

Rylan looks toward the door.

“Arlene was right,” I add.

He stands. “I want to hear him myself.”

The next lesson begins with Luna Selena asking about a request from another pack.

Rylan stands outside the partially open office door, out of sight. I remain beside him.

Arlene is inside at her desk again, working quietly while Luna Selena listens.

Brennan’s voice carries clearly.

“Before responding, you should consult the Elders. They will determine whether the matter requires Council involvement.”

“And if I already know what I want to do?” Luna Selena asks.

“Then you should still seek their guidance. A Luna must be careful not to confuse personal judgment with the authority of her position.”

Rylan’s jaw tightens.

Luna Selena asks another question. “What if the Elders and Rylan disagree?”

“The Elders are there to provide continuity and experience. An Alpha may have the final authority, but a wise Luna understands the importance of supporting the Elders’ guidance rather than creating unnecessary conflict.”

Rylan moves.

I catch his arm.

He looks at me.

We need to know who taught him this, I mindlink.

His eyes return to the door.

Brennan continues. “Your role is to maintain the pack’s confidence in its leadership. You need not concern yourself with every difficult decision. That is what the Elders are for.”

The door slams open.

Brennan turns.

Rylan crosses the room before the Elder can speak. His hand closes around Brennan’s throat, and he lifts him from the floor.

“Rylan!” Luna Selena rises.

Brennan claws at his wrist.

“You think my Luna is your fucking servant?”

“Alpha...”

A growl tears from Rylan’s chest.

“My Luna is equal to me.”
