The Annoyingly Attractive Neighbor

“You did that one-handed.”
“Yes.”
“Why can you do that?”
“I’ve made breakfast before.”
“That was unnecessarily impressive.”
He cracked the second one.
“Do it again.”
“You just watched me.”
“I need to confirm it wasn’t an accident.”
“Careful, princess, it’s starting to seem like you have a thing for me cracking eggs,” he teased.
She absolutely would not let him realize there was an embarrassing amount of truth to that.
“Weirdo,” she said instead. “Now we’re gonna mix the dry ingredients. We need flour, baking soda, and salt.”
Noah opened the flour bag too aggressively. A little cloud of flour got on Claire’s shirt.
She looked down. Then slowly looked at him.
“That was an accident,” he said immediately.
“Was it?”
“Mostly.”
Claire took a pinch of flour and tapped it onto his shirt. “Now we’re even.”
“That was not an accident.”
“Correct.”
Before she could react, Noah brushed a finger lightly across her cheek.
She looked at him. “What?”
He held up his fingertip. Dusted with flour.
“Oh.”
“Now we’re even.” He offered her an innocent grin.
She couldn’t even pretend to be mad.
She added the salt and baking soda, which she measured very carefully.
“Now we combine the wet and dry ingredients. Start adding the flour gradually,” she instructed.
He started dumping too much.
“Slowly.”
