Let Me In, Please

“There’s a reason for everything. Your union starts something that some of us don’t want to happen,” Dante answered vaguely.

“It sounds like a bunch of bullshit and hating-ass vampires if you ask me.”

“No one asked you, bitch!” Amelia grumbled, shooting me a dirty glare that didn’t faze me.

“Fuck you too. I hope you save some of that energy for your soulmate. Ain’t he the one you should be mad at? Shit, my soulmate would never carry on like Dante did, but hey, if you like it, I love it,” I said to Amelia with a fake grin on my face.

“I’m ready to go,” Amelia said, grilling Dante.

“Come on, Quinny,” Dante said, trying to grab my arm, but I snatched it from him.

“So what? I’m supposed to walk out that door with the two of you?” I asked, raising my eyebrow in questioning.

“Correct,” Dante replied.

“Not going to happen,” I said, then kicked Dante in his nuts and took off.

“Kenji!” I called, trying to mindspeak with him, only to be tackled to the ground.

“Sorry, Quinny. You left me no choice,” Dante said, straddling me, and the next thing I saw was his fist slamming into my face as everything went dark.

Chapter 21

“Fuck!” I belted in anger, kicking over the end table in my living room.

Quinny was gone, and it was clear she ain’t leave on her own. My living room was a fucking wreck. Tables and chairs were overturned, with broken glass and all kinds of shit all over the place. I could have beaten my own ass for not making it back to Quinny in time. I thought Oliver was just saying shit to throw us off until I heard Quinny calling out for me. My fucking heart leaped outta my chest hearing the fear in Quinny’s distress-filled voice. Rage. That was the only emotion I could focus on as I tried to process that Dante had the balls to take my soulmate. I chuckled bitterly. He really had my fucking soulmate. The one person in this world who was made for me. Quinny literally completed my soul. What I felt for her was deeper than any regular love. My chest tightened painfully as a thousand different possibilities of what they wanted with Quinny raced through my head, each one worse than the last. For the first time in my life, I experienced something I never had before: fear. In my long life, there wasn’t anything that made me fearful. However, as the thought of losing Quinny settled in, it brought a level of fear. It made me weak in my knees. I couldn’t lose her when I’d just found her. We’d just completed our mating bond, and now I didn’t have her. I was pissed at myself for leaving her unprotected. I foolishly underestimated Dante. I thought his dealings were some low-level shit. Clearly, I was wrong. For him to be able to get into the compound, that meant he was working with someone who had access to us. The fact we had a traitor in our midst called for a full sweep of every being around us.

“Bruh, we gone find Quinny,” Benji said, placing his hand on my shoulder.

I knew he was trying to be comforting, but his reassurance did little to calm me down. I wouldn’t be at peace until I had the heads of Dante and whoever he was working with. They fucked up taking Quinny and I was the right mutha fucka to teach them a lesson. I was out for fucking blood behind my soulmate.

“No shit. I don’t have a fucking choice but to bring her home.” I didn’t mean to take my frustration out on Benji, but I was too irritated to control my emotions.

Quinny being gone was driving me mad. I’d tried to mindspeak with her, but I got no answer. I hated how lost I felt. This wasn’t me. I was a leader who always knew what to do. This hopeless shit was pissing me off even more. These weak feelings weren’t for me. I wasn’t fucking helpless. Yet here I was, standing here wondering if my soulmate was somewhere scared, hurt, or calling out for me.

“Fuck!” I raged. Bending over, I flipped my couch over, tossing it halfway across the room. It landed with a loud bang. I had to get Quinny back ASAP, before I went fucking rogue and started fucking everything up.

“Don’t you have cameras?” Tahji asked.

My stupid ass was too fucking mad to even think about the cameras I had on the perimeter of my house. I didn’t reply to him. I just took off to my bedroom, where my camera system monitor was hooked up. Normally, I wouldn’t waste my energy flashing through my house, but I had to get to that video feed. In a second, I was in my room. With the remote in my hand, I pressed a button, and the monitor came down from the ceiling. A few seconds later, Benji and Tahji walked into my room, standing at my side. I pressed the rewind button on the camera feed. My chest tightened as I watched Dante carrying out Quinny with some bitch following behind them. It pissed me off seeing Dante gently holding her, as if she belonged to him. The sight of him putting his fucking hands on Quinny woke up the vicious side of me. I was going to kill his bitch ass if I didn’t do anything else in my life. I skipped back a few more minutes until I saw when Dante and the bitch he was with stepped foot onto my property.

“Who they talking to?” Benji asked, scrunching his face up to get a better look at the video.

Dante talked to someone that was a few inches off camera. Whoever it was had to know the angles of the cameras around my house because they didn’t move anywhere the camera could see them.

“What’s that?” Tahji said, pointing out the hand reaching out to Dante, handing him something.

Dante took whatever it was, then headed to my door, and he stuck a key into the door, opening it. “Whoever that was had to be the one who let them onto the compound,” I stated the obvious.

“It looked like they handed Dante a key or something,” Benji sighed, sounding perplexed.

“Right, but who the fuck gotta key to yo’ house?” Tahji scowled.

“Nobody, I don’t use fucking keys for that exact reason,” I replied pissed.

This shit was crazy as fuck because I had stopped using keys years ago. It was too easy for anybody to get ahold of your key and make a copy. I used to use a pass code then I switched to the hand print. The only ones who were in the system to unlock my door were my brothers and our dad. No key should have unlocked my door.
