“I’m good, love,” I replied, folding my arms across my chest as I stared Dante down. He might have been bigger than me, but the way his bitch ass folded against Kenji had me feeling like I could take him.
“Aww, your little boyfriend got you smellin’ yo’ self, huh? How quickly we forget.”
“Forget what? That black eye and busted lips my soulmate gave your punk ass? I see you don’t heal that fast, huh?” I giggled, commenting on the faint ring around his left eye.
“We gone see whose laughing when Kenji’s bitch ass can’t save you. Amelia, go get her so we can go,” Dante said to the girl. She rolled her eyes at him, but she turned towards me.
“Don’t come over here,” I warned Amelia with narrowed eyes. “I don’t know if you’re a vampire or what, but I’ll still beat yo’ ass like you’re a regular bitch.”
“I’m not scared of a fucking human,” Amelia growled, and her eyes started glowing a bright blue color. “I owe you for fucking my soulmate.”
“You don’t owe me shit. That dick ain’t worth a damn. If anything, I took one for the team, dummy.” I guess that pissed her off, and Amelia charged at me.
She went to grab me, but I ducked, and she ran into the living room, falling over a side table. Without giving her a chance to recoup, I ran over to her, snatching Amelia up by her long hair. I half expected it to be a wig, but this bitch had real long hair, and if I wasn’t finna beat her ass, I would have complimented her on it. Instead, I wrapped her hair around my knuckles, using it to keep a good grip on her as I punched her dead in the face. I wasn’t sure how many hits it took to really have an effect on a vampire, but I refused to let up, even as blood shot out from her face. Amelia bucked under my weight, trying to get loose. Quinny wasn’t skinny. I had never been more glad for my size than I was right now.
“You stupid bitch!” I screamed in pain when Amelia dug her nails into my skin, drawing blood.
I tossed her across the room. I was kind of shocked I was able to throw her that far. The crashing sound of glass breaking was followed by Amelia’s body landing on the ground with a thud. My adrenaline was rushing as I turned to head in her direction, but a pair of arms wrapped around me, stopping me from moving.
“I told your dumb ass you should have fed before we came here. You so full of yourself you didn’t take into account Quinny can fight, and they completed their Blood Mating Bond, so she’s stronger,” Dante scolded Amelia as she slowly stood up to her feet, her face bloody.
I smiled proudly at my work. I fucked that bitch up, and if Dante hadn’t gotten in my way, I’d still be fucking her up right now. “Let me go, dummy!” I said, throwing my head back, trying to headbutt Dante.
“No, we have orders to carry out, and we’re going to do what we’re supposed to do,” he said, placing me in a headlock. “Keep on trying me, Quinny. I’ll break your fucking neck,” Dante gritted out through clenched teeth.
“I bet yo’ bitch ass would kill me,” I spat, out of breath from my struggling.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Quinny. Despite how this might look, I do care for you. I always have. I just…” He paused, sighing deeply. “Certain things I can’t control, but I’ve always done what was best for you. I tried to keep you from Kenji. It was my way of keeping you from being involved in this. I swear I always wanted to keep you safe. You gotta believe me, Quinny,” Dante said in a softer voice.
“Putting me in a headlock doesn’t keep me safe, Dante,” I smartly replied. “It’s uncomfortable as fuck.”
“I’m sorry. If I let you up, you have to promise not to fight me or try to escape,” Dante said as he released me from my headlock.
I stood up just in time to see Amelia charging at me again. I prepared myself for her to attack me, but it never came. I saw her flying back, crashing into the glass coffee table, shattering it. I looked back at Dante, who had the meanest expression on his face as he looked down at Amelia.
“That’s enough, Amelia. We didn’t come here for all this fighting stuff.”
“Are you fucking serious? You are my fucking soulmate, and you put your hands on me to save your bitch you were fucking! Not only that, you’re sitting here basically telling this bitch you love her like I’m no fucking body to you!” Amelia screamed at the top of her lungs, with her bloody hands moving dramatically as she spoke. “You got me so fucked up right now!” She hopped up to her feet like she was ready to fight Dante.
I stepped to the side, moving out of her way. I didn’t like Amelia’s ashy ass, but I would have reacted worse than that if Kenji acted the way Dante was right now. Dante was out of his mind if he thought anything he was saying meant anything to me. If it wasn’t Kenji, I didn’t want it. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
“I’ll break your face if you come over here with that bullshit. You know why we’re here. We needed to get Quinny. We got her. Let’s fucking go,” Dante gritted, evilly staring at Amelia.
I hated to interrupt their staring contest, but I wanted to know why the fuck they needed me. I was new to all this vampire stuff. There wasn’t any way I was connected to any of this.
“What do I have to do with any of this? I just found out vampires existed a week ago.”
“You weren’t supposed to be able to complete your Blood Mating Bond. We weren’t supposed to break up, but you caught me with Amelia. Kinda fucked the entire plan up, and now, seeing as you have Kenji’s mark, we gotta improvise.” Dante shrugged, scratching his head in confusion.
“Why can’t I be with Kenji? He’s my soulmate. We’re destined to be together, I thought?” I asked to pick Dante’s brain.
“No shit, but just because destiny placed y’all together doesn’t mean there aren’t ones who don’t want to see y’all be together,” Amelia answered with an attitude.
“Like who?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Dante said.
“It does when they’re trying to keep me and my soulmate apart for no reason,” I smartly said, moving my neck from side to side. Any person, vampire, or anything in between that wanted to keep me from Kenji would have to do a lot more than send Dante’s bitch ass. I would find my way back to Kenji no matter the cost.
