“Plates?”
“Not clear enough. We're working on it.”
“How do we know it's connected?”
“We don't,” Vex says. “But I don't like coincidences.”
Neither do I.
Grim pushes away from his desk.
“We're moving you and Madison.”
“The clubhouse is secure.”
“It is. But whoever did this knows where you live, and we don't know how much else they know. Until we've got a better picture, I want you somewhere less predictable.”
“Which house?”
“The one outside town. Scar's making sure it's ready.”
One of the Sinners' safe houses. Quiet location, good security, and no reason for anybody to associate it with me.
Grim folds his arms.
“Now, about Madison. You told us she claims she was looking for a match for one of her clients?”
“Yeah.”
Striker snorts. “And she expects you to believe that shit?”
“She knows I don't.”
“Then what was she really after?” Grim asks.
“That's what I intend to find out.”
“Lock's already checking her background,” Grim says. “And Striker kept the glass she used.”
I turn toward Striker.
“Why the fuck did you keep her glass?”
He meets my stare without blinking.
“DNA, brother. We need to know who we're dealing with.”
“You're fucking kidding.”
“She's been watching your cabin for three days, Torch. She gets inside, starts searching your bedroom, then tells you she's looking for a date for some rich client. You tell me that doesn't deserve a closer look.”
“Run her name through every database you've got. That doesn't mean you get to take her DNA without asking.”
“She's hiding something,” Grim says. “And until we know what it is, we can't rule out a connection to whoever planted that device.”
I hate that he's right.
I also know Madison would be furious if she found out.
