I stop inside Grim's office and turn toward Striker, who's leaning against the wall with a smug grin.
“Don't you have somebody else to annoy?”
“Plenty. You're closest.”
“Enough, you two,” Grim says from behind his desk.
Vex stands beside him, studying a small device sealed inside an evidence bag.
The sight of it pushes the memory of Madison's kiss straight out of my head.
“We found it,” Grim says.
I move closer.
“Where?”
“Behind the paneling in your cabin,” Striker answers. “Hound spotted where somebody had tampered with it.”
I study the device through the evidence bag.
“What the fuck is it?”
“Some kind of gas dispenser,” Grim says. “We haven't identified the gas yet, but Razor says it would explain Madison's symptoms.”
“So somebody rigged my cabin to poison me.”
“That's what it looks like.”
My jaw tightens.
“How long was it there?”
“Before you installed your cameras,” Vex answers. “Lock checked the footage. Nobody's been inside since then except Madison.”
Yesterday, I put up cameras because I wanted to know what a beautiful trespasser was doing around my property.
Meanwhile, somebody had already turned my home into a fucking trap.
And because I left that window unlocked, Madison walked straight into it.
My hand curls into a fist.
“Whoever planted it was expecting me.”
“That's how it looks,” Grim says.
“Then we find the son of a bitch.”
“We will.”
Grim holds my gaze, and I nod. Whatever bastard planted that device, my brothers will help me find him.
“What's our next move?” I ask.
Vex speaks up.
“Hound also found fresh tire impressions off the road near your place. Lock pulled footage from a camera farther down that road. Dark SUV, parked there long enough to raise questions.”
