“Don’t.”
He stopped.
“Don’t you fucking use my abortion to explain why you went back home.”
“I wasn’t.”
“You were about to.”
He ran both hands down his face. “Things got complicated.”
“Things have been complicated since the first fucking date!”
“I know.”
“So when do they get simple?”
He didn’t answer.
I stepped closer. “WHEN?”
“I’m working on it.”
“No.” My voice dropped. “You are working me. You’ve been working me and my fucking nerves for three years.”
“That isn’t fair.”
“I defended you to everyone.”
“Blair—”
“I lost friends.”
My voice shook. “I look my sister in the fucking face and constantly defend you.”
“I know.”
“I terminated a pregnancy because you sat in my living room talking about God, timing, blessings, and closing chapters.”
Tears filled my eyes. “And you were still going home to her.”
His eyes started to water. “I was trying to protect—”
“WHO?” I screamed. “Who the fuck were you protecting? Because it wasn’t me.”
My chest heaved. “And it damn sure wasn’t that baby.”
“Don’t do that.”
“And apparently Ravenna doesn’t even know she needs protection because she’s walking around telling people everything is fine!”
“Blair—”
His phone buzzed and he froze. His phone buzzed again.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
