Later, he left. I stood at the window watching his car disappear down the street.

I did what I had promised myself I wasn’t doing anymore. I opened Instagram and typed her name. Ravenna Whitmore. Her page had recently become private, but her profile picture had changed. I zoomed in to see that it was her and Caleb together.

My stomach dropped. It looked recent, and I knew because Caleb had gotten that haircut last month. They were standing somewhere dressed nicely, both smiling. Her left hand against his chest showing her wedding ring.

I looked down at my ring.

For a few seconds, reality took over the fantasy. What the fuck was I doing? He was still married. She was still wearing his ring. I was wearing a promise that someday she wouldn’t be.

I closed Instagram fast. I didn’t call or text him about it. Instead, I went upstairs. I laid in bed and just imagined us. Sunday breakfasts, Christmas mornings, his clothes in my closet, our wedding picture downstairs. I looked down at my ring and just like that… I felt better.

That was how far gone I was. Reality hurt, so I stopped living there. I built somewhere prettier inside my head and moved in permanently. Caleb had given me the blueprint of delusion, and I decorated every fucking room.

Blair

I learned three things about Nash. One, he’s entirely too competitive. Two, tequila makes him louder. And three, that motherfucker cannot bowl.

“MOVE!”

I nearly fell over laughing as his ball traveled one mile an hour down the lane.

He looked over his shoulder at me. “Shut up.”

“Is it gonna make it?”

“Blair.”

I leaned to the side like a different angle might help. “I think it stopped.”

“It didn’t stop.”

“It looks stopped.”

“It is moving.”

“Barely!”

The ball finally reached the pins and only two out of ten fell.

I screamed. “YES!”

“Why are you celebrating?”

“Because you got some!”

“I’ve been getting some.”

“Not tonight.”

He stared at me and I stared back. Then he realized what I’d said.

His eyebrow lifted.

I pointed at the pins. “Bowling. I meant bowling.”

He smiled and I flipped him off before reaching for my drink.
