His arms tightened around me. “I don’t mean it like that.”

I cried until my head and body hurt. I cried until there were no pretty thoughts with Caleb left. No God is a God of miracles. No wedding. No dream house. No future children. Just grief.

Almost an hour later, my tears stopped.

I pulled away. “I need to pee.”

Caleb nodded. “Need help?”

“No.”

I walked to the bathroom slowly, closed the door, and stared at myself. I looked tired and old in spirit.

I hit him in the face as hard as I could. “What the fuck—”

I hit his chest. “Blair!”

I was trying to make the pain go somewhere besides inside me.

“I JUST ABORTED YOUR BABY!”

“Blair, stop!”

He caught my wrists.

“YOUR FUCKING WIFE IS ASKING WHEN YOU’RE COMING HOME!”

His eyes widened. “What?”

I jerked one hand free and shoved the phone toward his face.

“HOME, CALEB?”

“Listen—”

“HOME?!”

“It’s not—”

“WHERE THE FUCK IS HOME?”

He scrambled out of the bed.
