“Did you do that research right after you met me?” His flirty tone had her smiling.
“No.” She giggled. “I saw a study done a few years ago. I found it interesting.” She shrugged. “I’m a plethora of useless knowledge.”
Gent smirked. “You know, we can go back to my room and test out that theory.”
Imogene rolled her eyes. “Do you sexualize everything?”
He leaned closer, and his eyes darkened, whispering. “Yes.”
Imogene burst out laughing and slapped his hand. “Thanks for hanging out with me.”
Gent stared back at her, but it was impossible to read his thoughts. Her appreciation probably sounded a bit desperate.
She shifted in her seat, circling her finger over the rim of the glass. “I haven’t been out a lot in the last couple years, and friends are just” —She cleared her throat, recognizing her own vulnerability. Speaking the truth would put a damper on the night— “I mean, I have friends.”
Girl, you mean you had friends.
“But since moving, I haven’t really met any new ones, so this is a lot of fun for me.” She peeked up at Gent. “So, thank you for inviting me.”
“Ah Cherry” —His groan was laced with humor— “Don’t be sweet and ruin this for me.”
What did that mean? Ruin what? Before she could ask, Gent smiled over at her.
“It’s my pleasure, darlin’.”

Jekyll got back from his ride an hour ago, and now the lot was almost packed. He’d considered just staying at his house but relented and went to the party. He usually looked forward to them. Not tonight. There was too much going on with the club. His mind was on business, not getting laid. Though, even that had shifted in the last few weeks. As Gent had pointed out, Jekyll hadn’t so much as looked at another woman since his encounter with Imogene.
He grabbed a drink from the bar in the back and watched a few cage matches with Wraith. The prospects were the most entertaining. Always trying to prove their worth in the ring. But it took a lot more than knocking someone out to wear the patch. He’d only stayed for thirty minutes before venturing into the main clubhouse.
He looked around the room, eyeing the throngs of people. The place was packed, rivaling a Saturday night party. He caught Cue and a few others at the main table reserved for members. The brother lifted his hand, and Jekyll made his way toward them. He was a few feet away when Cross glanced over his shoulder.
“Change your mind?”
It was either the party or alone in his house. The jury was still out on which was the better choice. He sidled up next to Cross, ignoring the blonde who slid her hand down his arm, vying for his attention. No woman would get it tonight.
“Prospect!” Oak shouted and lifted his empty bottle. “You see anything wrong with this?”
The prospect was new in the last few months, and Jekyll wasn’t sure of his name. He never took the time to learn them until they became full-fledged brothers. His back was to the table and seemingly ignoring Oak.
What the fuck?
Oak shoved him. “Fucking wake up, man.”
The prospect jerked his head and laughed. “I’m plotting out how to steal the redhead from Gent. ’Cause fucking damn.” He smirked. “That’s my type.”
Jekyll turned his head, scanning the room in search of Gent. He found him on the opposite side of the room talking with a woman. Jekyll’s gaze trailed over her back, zoning in on her ass molded by red leather pants. He was more of a breast guy, but he could appreciate an ass, and hers was fucking perfect.
When she turned slightly, he got the perfect view of her profile. Within seconds his muscles tightened, he balled his fists, and he clenched his jaw. What the fuck?
He’d seen her dozens of times. Enough to have every detail embedded in his mind. Never once had he envisioned her like this. At the prison, she’d always been covered from neck to ankles, nothing to show off her form. Even when he’d seen her that night at the club, she was dressed in a long sleeve top with barely any cleavage showing and jeans.
But this?
“Is that who I fucking think it is?” Cross’s deep tone shared the same shock as Jekyll.
“That’s Imogene.” Addison said.
