“Uh-huh.” She nodded.
What the hell was she thinking wanting to get closer to an ex-con biker tied to an outlaw club? This woman should be running far away from him. She needed to go before he did something they’d both regret. He’d always had an undeniable draw to Imogene. He could never act on it behind bars. But there was nothing separating them now.
He grabbed the edge of her door. “Go home, Imogene.”
He didn’t trust himself to say another word. He slammed the door shut and started walking away when he heard the engine turn over. Security was still watching him, but he didn’t acknowledge them. He could’ve given Jared a heads up about Lou selling in the club. But he didn’t.
’Cause fuck you, Rogue.
He walked across the street and got on his bike. He was fully aware of the brothers watching him, but he kept his gaze laser focused on her car pulling out of the driveway. When she turned left, she glanced out the window and gave a short wave. His muscles tightened, but he didn’t return the gesture.
“Jek?” Cue said.
Jekyll held up his hand, never taking his eyes off of her car. When the brake lights brightened, he angled his head to watch her make a left and disappear.
Now they could head out. Jekyll grabbed his helmet and froze when he heard the cackle from beside him.
“That’s a sweet piece, Jek.” Gent’s taunting tone had his muscles tightening. “If you ain’t gonna call dibs, I might have to.”
“Gent, shut the fuck up,” Cue said, clearly reading the tension.
He hadn’t shared anything about Imogene with anyone but Cypher, Ace, and Cross. Even that was minimal. Hyde obviously had his own opinions but knew better than to push him on the subject of her. He didn’t have to. Hyde knew him better than anyone else.
Gent laughed, and his footsteps got dangerously close to Jekyll. “What? If it’s a big deal, I don’t mind sharing. We could do her together.”
A vision formed in his mind. Imogene and Gent. He squared his jaw and slowly turned to Gent, who was watching him from two feet away. Jekyll shot out his arm, wrapping his hand around Gent’s throat.
“Brother, don’t be greedy.”
Jekyll cocked his head, narrowing his gaze. “You’re not gonna go near her. You understand? ’Cause I will kill you. I know a lot of brothers have threatened it, but I’ll fucking do it, Gent.”
Gent’s lips twitched. “You got a thing for the librarian?”
Jekyll tightened his hold. “I got a thing for beating the fuck outta you if you ever bring her up again.”
“Alright, brother. I’ll respect your boundaries.”
Jekyll gave him a slight shove. Gent’s amused chuckle only added to the tension. This whole situation with her sudden appearance left Jekyll wired tighter than usual. And territorial.
There wasn’t anything he could do about it now. They were leaving for a run that would keep them away for the next week. He pulled out his burner phone and sent the text.
Jekyll: Need everything you got on the librarian. Dig fucking deeper. Need her current address in Lawry.
He was about to put away his phone when it pinged.
Cypher: Lawry?
He quickly tapped on the screen.
Jekyll: Yeah, she fucking lives here now. I want everything.
Cypher: On it.
He shoved his phone in his pocket and looked toward the empty road.
What the hell was she doing here?
