My throat tightens.

He backs up before I can answer, walks around the bonnet, and climbs into the driver’s seat.

Once I climb in, he watches me fasten my seatbelt, switches on the heated seats, and pulls away from the Harrington estate.

Rather than talk, I stare out at the blurring green fields covered in morning mist.

“What poor lad are you ruining this morning?” I ask eventually.

Fionn keeps his eyes on the road. “That depends.”

“On what?”

“Whether they’re sensible enough to do what I ask of them.”

“Did you go after Cormac?”

“Yes.”

“Why?” I ask. “He’s one of ours. That garage has nothing to do with the Harringtons.”

He glances over at me. “You really don’t know why I put him in the hospital?”

I shake my head.

“Because he made you bleed.”

My fingers tighten in my lap. “So, I owe ya now?”

“That one was on me.”

“Oh my,” I feign a gasp. “Is that the Harrington charm?”

“That was nothing.” He smiles. “I’m much worse when I’m trying.”

The fact he’s wearing a suit should make this easier to remember he’s the Harrington heir. My family’s enemy. Eilish’s future husband.

Despite all that, it gives him another sense of danger.

Last night, he seemed like a man I could fall for.

This morning, he’s a man who could destroy me.

“Will Graves tell your da about us?”

“I’ve known him since I was a boy,” he says. “He’d sooner try to kick my ass in the ring than run to my father.”

“I’m sure you can take a beating.”

“He was one hell of a fighter in his day,” he says. “Still is. But I’m better.”

“You’re only better than him because he’s older now.”

His gaze flicks to me for half a second. “You’ve never seen me fight.”

“I’d like to watch.”

“Would you like to see me win or lose, Sera?”
