“That’s a balanced snack where I come from.”
His eyes move over me and a slight smile plays on his lips. “A bottle of chilled water, then.”
“Fionn.”
“Sera.”
“I’m fine.”
“Understood.”
He pockets his phone and holds out his hand.
My brows pinch tight, and I stare at it, then I look up at him.
“What?”
“Unless you want to wander through the wrong door and end up in a chapel, take my hand.”
“There’s a chapel here?”
“Does that honestly surprise you?”
I place my hand in his. “Of course it does. People like your father burn in holy places.”
His fingers close around mine. “What about you? After last night, you’ve got a lot to confess.”
He leads me through the entrance hall, opens the front door, and cold morning air rolls over us.
“I used to confide in Fury,” I tell him. “So these days my secrets will have to die with me.”
Hand in hand, we head toward his Land Rover, and he opens the passenger door.
“Tell me your biggest, and I’ll tell you mine,” Fionn angles me into him.
I laugh, gazing up at him. “Right. Like I’m telling you first.”
His gaze drops to my mouth, then returns to my eyes. “I woke up wanting Sera Tallon again.”
My stomach tightens. “That's your biggest secret?”
“No.” His thumb drags over my lower lip. “I’ve trusted you with many secrets already.”
The truth spins through my chest, hot and reckless.
All of it.
How he scares me. How he thrills me. How last night was something I’ll struggle to forget.
“My biggest secret,” I say, quieter now, “is that sometimes I think standing beside you would be better than standing against you.”
The wind blows my hair across my face, but neither of us moves.
Fionn’s expression hardens, and his knuckles nudge my chin up. “Then remember something.”
“What?”
“If my father ever reaches for you, he goes through me first.”
