“I’m such a pushover.”

“Well, I’ve been friends with her since kindergarten.”

“Not to mention dating her for a year.”

“Yeah. So what’s that make me?”

Luke watched Wilda for a moment, talking with Mathias. “Looks like you’ve got something good going on now, though.”

“I believe I do.”

“I’m happy for you, man.”

“Our brothers all fell in love, got married, took on kids that weren’t their own, and I respected it. But I didn’t really get it.” He looked at Wilda. “I totally get it now.”

Chapter twenty-eight

“We’ll go with that, I guess.”

During the second round, Abe and Gentry played. It went three games, with Abe taking the win.

Gentry dropped into one of the chairs. “Dammit. So close.”

“Close doesn’t count.”

“Yeah, whatever.”

Mathias looked at Rachel. “Are you ready for this?”

“You’re not going to beat me again.”

“Hmm. I’m not as easily intimidated as Luke.”

Luke scowled. “Hey.”

Rachel blew him a kiss. “You know I love you, Luke.”

Mathias broke the balls and sank three. “Hmm. Good start for me.” He kept going and sank two more before missing. He motioned toward the table. “It’s all yours.”

Rachel sank three balls, then missed an easy shot.

Luke laughed. “Now who’s intimidated?”

Milo stepped up beside Wilda. “Care to make a side bet?”

“On the winner?”

“Yeah. The question is, do you back your brother, or do you stand by the only woman in the group?”

“Hmm. I think I’ll put my money on Rachel.” She took Milo’s arm. “Just don’t tell Mathias I bet against him.”

“We’ll keep this a private bet.”

“And what are we wagering?”

He thought for a moment. “A back massage?”
