“What did you think about the rings today?” Finn asks, pulling the remote from between the cushions.

I sit back and sigh happily. “I can’t believe that I get to pick one. That’s what I think.” I giggle. “There were so many beautiful choices that narrowing it down was a chore.” I wink at him. “But I figured it out.”

“You texted me your choice, right? I think I remember seeing it when I was on the phone with Branch, but I haven’t had time to go back and look at it.”

“Yeah, I did.”

“Which one did you go with?” he asks.

“It was between BM333 and KM202,” I say. “But the more that I looked at them, the more I thought that the KM202 was just too much. It was so big and bold. So I went with BM333.”

He tilts his head. “But you like BM333, right? Because you can have either one. It makes no difference.”

“I know. I just feel like the other one should be on a Hollywood starlet’s finger, not mine. Who am I to wear something like that?” I laugh at the audacity. “The BM333 is more restrained and safer to cross bridges with it on my finger.”

Finn grins. “Okay. I’ll let the team know, and we’ll get it ordered.”

“Great.” I yawn, the day starting to get the best of me. “Now, food. Why don’t I place an order for actual groceries so we have things to eat? I’m sure you don’t have anything Sunny-appropriate anyway. That’ll let us relax and get situated tonight.”

“That’s a good idea because you’re right. I don’t have much for her to have. I ignored a call from Chuck earlier, and he left a message, so I need to check on that. I also know his assistant sent me several emails today that I need to look at. I think most of them are contracts that you and I will need to go over together.”

I grab a throw blanket off the back of the couch and place it beside Sunny. She grabs it and pulls it against her cheek. Sweet baby.

“Honestly, Finn, I don’t know anything about contracts. I’ve never seen one before. So if you look at it and think it’s a good thing, then I trust you.”

He shakes his head. “No. That’s not how this works.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean that this ... some of these contracts are going to directly affect you. If it’s a sneaker thing that has nothing to do with you, obviously, you don’t need to look at that. But if it’s something that involves you, like a photo shoot or using your name or your likeness or our engagement as a selling point, then you need to know what’s going to be said. You have every right to control your own image, and you must decide what’s right for you and have your opinions be heard.”

I scoot across the couch to him and place my head on his chest. His arms come around me, and he presses a kiss to the top of my head. I could close my eyes, stay here forever, and be happy.

Finally, he sighs. “Why don’t you go upstairs and get changed and settled in? I’ll order takeout from the Vietnamese place you love.”

“Oh, we haven’t had that in a long time.”

“Sound good?”

I sit up. “Definitely. Can I have my usual?”

“You got it.”

“I’ll go up and change and order groceries. Is there anything you want in particular?”

He shakes his head. “Nothing you can get from a store.”

A bolt of heat rips through me from the look he sends my way. It’s a strange kind of torture to finally have him all to myself, but still be unable to have him. I’m being cockblocked by a toddler.

“It’s like the universe isn’t on my side,” he says, adjusting himself.

I grin. “Well, I don’t give a royal fuck what the universe has to say. Tonight, my dry spell ends one way or the other.”

“Oh, I can guarantee you at least three ways it’s going to end.”

“Keep it up, and we’re going to have a problem on our hands.”

He chuckles. “Go get yourself sorted, and I’m going to order dinner.”
