“Liv,” Dorian interrupts and points at the bar. “I think you should worry about that girl over there instead.”
I whip my head in that direction to see Sage standing there waiting on our drinks. My eyes immediately focus on the hand with long red nails groping his bicep. I launch myself out of the booth, my gaze locking onto the brunette in the skimpy dress.
As I approach, Sage politely removes her hand and takes a step back, but she just takes one forward. My vision narrows and adrenaline starts pumping viciously through my veins. The heartbeat in my ears is trying to compete with the low growl forming at the back of my throat.
This is so foreign. I’ve never been jealous over a man in my life, but goddamn I want to break this woman’s wrist.
He’s mine.
It’s completely understandable why he gets hit on all the time. I mean, just fucking look at him.
He towers above this woman, the large muscles in his arms flexing as he crosses them over his chest. The black tattoos on his left arm peek out beneath the cuff of his t-shirt that stretches tightly over the hard planes of his chest and torso.
“No. I already told you I have a girlfriend,” he says gruffly.
I quickly step in front of him when she tries to advance forward again. I force a smile on my face.
“And she has a gun,” I reveal.
Her gaze drops to my hip where it’s holstered, and her eyes widen ever so slightly.
To drive my point home, I spin around to face Sage and place my boot onto the bottom rung of the bar stool. Pushing myself up, I hurl myself into his arms.
My legs wrap around his waist, and I savagely grab his hair to jerk his head back before giving him a hard, claiming kiss. He grips my ass harder, groaning into my mouth. The kiss becomes heated, his tongue trying to dominate mine.
“Hey you two! Get a room!” Sherry bangs on the bar next to us, bringing us out of our lust-filled haze.
When I look behind me, the woman is gone and a triumphant smirk takes over my face. Sage sets me down and looks at me with pride and adoration. He laces the two beer bottles from the bar between his fingers, and I grab the other two. He smacks my ass as we head back to the booth.
Enzo and Dorian are grinning wildly when we sit back down and hand them their drinks.
“Better get used to claiming your man, Liv. If this video keeps blowing up, you’re going to have your hands full keeping the women at bay.” Dorian smirks over the rim of his bottle.
“I can handle myself,” Sage retorts.
I pat his thigh. “Sure you can, babe. But you won’t lay a hand on a woman.” I lower my voice, “I will.”
His eyes darken as they slide down to my lips. I make a show of taking a long sip of my beer and then slowly licking them.
Every time we go home after a mission, we end up having the most intense sex. I assume it’s due to the rush from the adrenaline. The high usually lasts awhile for us because we love the thrill so much.
Something about him today is different though.
He was zoned out in the truck on the way back to headquarters—lost in his thoughts. Everything went smoothly as far as I know, so I’m not sure where his head was at.
But now he seems more on edge. And clingy. He’s barely detached himself from me since we left work. Don’t get me wrong. I love the extra attention. But I have to wonder if it’s coming at a cost to his sanity.
We finish our second round of beers and say our goodbyes for the night. All of us decided to switch to drinking beer for the most part after Sage and I moved into the house. And we only have two at the most. A nuisance for Dorian, but he is complying.
Usually.
The consensus was that with Kyle still out there, none of us can afford to be impaired. Ever. We all need to be able to react quickly and with a clear head. One slipup would allow him to make a move.
The only question is when.
Because he will come.
And we need to be ready.
